BACKGROUND
The IUCN Redlist of Threatened Species™ is widely recognized as the most comprehensive, objective global approach for evaluating the conservation status of plant and animal species.

The previous Redlist is out dated as several new species are explored in recent times as well as the status of certain species also been changed. This study will update Red List for 7 groups of wildlife (Mammal, Reptile, Amphibians, Aves, Freshwater Fish, Crustacean and Butterfly), approximately, 1700 species in all.

The goal of The IUCN Redlist is “to provide information and analyses on the status, trends and threats to species in order to inform and catalyze action for biodiversity conservation”.

Under the guidance of the Country Representative and Programme Coordinator, IUCN Bangladesh and in close consultation with National Chief Technical Expert of ‘Updating Species Redlist of Bangladesh’ project; this position is overall responsible for the successful, smooth and timely implementation of the project.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The main responsibilities are:

- Administer overall Project Management and Administration and manage the entire implementation of the project.

- In consultation with National Chief Technical Expert, coordinate and support and lead and associate species assessors and other consultants engaged for this project.

- Coordinate and supervise all project staff and others involved with this project.

- Represent the project at National and International level.

- Engage with government partners, donors, research institutes, and other stockholders on a regular basis for the implementation of the project.

- Overall responsibility: financial, administrative, monitoring and evaluation, learning etc.

DUTIES

Under the overall supervision, direction and guidance of the Country Representative and Programme Coordinator and working in close collaboration with other concerned IUCN staffs, the Project Manager will coordinate the implementation of the project and will have duties as under:

Project Management, Implementation and Administration

- Provide overall management and coordination of all activities of the Redlist project in Bangladesh;

- Undertake day-to-day management of the project and its operations ensuring timely deliveries of outputs and adherence to the budget;

- Ensure compliance with all project management requirements including timely submission of work plans, budgets, internal agreements, contracts, and progress reports;

- The Project Manager will supervise and lead other Redlist project support staff, interns and volunteers as required, and direct the work of national consultants engaged to assist the Redlist project;

- The Project Manager will ensure coordination with Redlist Unit of IUCN and relevant SSC members as necessary.

- Supervise Project Assistant to provide logistic and technical support to Group-Lead and co-assessors in assessment and documentation

Project Planning, Monitoring and Reporting

- Undertake, plan and implement regular reviews and monitoring and evaluation tasks to ensure timely completion of tasks and for their quality assurance;

- Plan meetings and seminars in the region to share experiences and promote the project.

- Lead in finalizing communication guidelines to be followed during the implementation of the project;

- Supervise all publications and communication materials, including books, video and posters on Redlist and threatened species of the country;

Technical and Research Coordination

- Support National Chief Technical Expert to prepare technical reports;

- Supervise and coordinate consultants to ensure timely deliverables;

- Overall responsible for organizing meetings, workshops, consultations and trainings;

- Liaison with Red list unit team in organizing assessment workshop;

- Contribute to the production of relevant technical reports and outputs as stipulated in the yearly work plans.

- Supervision of and technical inputs to consulting reports and missions and studies.

Undertake any other tasks that may be assigned by CR and PC as and when deemed necessary.

The above TOR contains the main responsibilities and duties of this position. However in an ever evolving organisation such as IUCN staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular TOR. Where any task becomes a regular part of staff member’s responsibilities, the TOR should be changed in consultation between the manager, the staff member and the HR Unit. Any one of the three may initiate the consultation.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Masters degree in Biological Science, preference will be given to candidate with species conservation related study.

• 9-10 years of professional experience

• Professional level of knowledge in English.
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is BDT 2'624'786. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
