BACKGROUND
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. In providing GIS support to the units, the position will be responsible for building complex spatial models and developing solutions and methodology for specific research projects.

2. Design, develop, and maintain ArcGIS geo-processing models and scripts to perform data preparation, loading tasks, automation, or improving workflows.

3. Continually interact with end users to understand requirements and enhance and extend the tools over time.

4. Provide technical support to the Cambridge Office species staff as well as the Biodiversity Assessment Unit of the Species Programme and the Species Survival Commission (SSC).

5. Develop cartographic products for scientific publications and the website.

6. Develop and document standards for data management and analysis.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors or masters or equivalent work experience in GIS, geography, computer science, information systems, engineering, environmental science or a related field.

• Experience in the ESRI suite of software particularly working knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcView, or other ESRI software products.

• Working knowledge and experience with ESRI geodatabase schema and behaviour. An understanding of relational databases, SQL and ArcSDE is also required.

• Familiarity with ArcGIS Desktop extensions (preferably ArcGIS Spatial Analyst).

• Working knowledge of Python as the ESRI Geoscripting language.

• Knowledge of ArcObjects is desired but not essential.

• While our desktop and database environment is mainly the ESRI suite of software we are increasingly looking at open-source GIS software to complement and improve efficiencies where needed. Experience with open source GIS would be an asset.

• A keen interest in the natural world and biodiversity conservation would be a distinct advantage, but is not essential.
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is GBP 30'012. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
