CONTEXT OF THE POSITION:

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the delivery of the Pacific Leadership Program as outlined in related project documents.

This is a Senior Position in the IUCN – Oceania Regional Programme, as it will be leading a team of prominent Pacific Island Leaders and Future Leader in a training and leadership program.

3. LOCATION: IUCN Regional Office for Oceania in Suva, Fiji.
Will require extensive travel in the Pacific islands region.

- All IUCN Oceania Regional Office Staff and Consultants are responsible to IUCN Oceania Regional Office.
- Direct reporting lines indicate those staff members providing direct supervision.
- Functional reporting lines indicate accountability for particular functions or areas of work
- Additional reporting lines indicate mutual reporting, information sharing and accountability, which is often reciprocal.
- Further cooperation will be extended to all other IUCN staff as appropriate. However consultation, information sharing and other relationship lines are not indicated as they are likely to be numerous.

Scope of responsibilities
1. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Pacific Leadership Initiative Funded by Ausaid through the Pacific Leadership Program (PLP).
2. Full responsibility for implementation of the program based on agreed workplans and information.



Specific activities / responsibilities

Project Implementation Phase II: Cycle 1: 1 July 2012
i. Coordinator Green Growth Leaders Coalition programme commences
a. Convene Core Group of leaders for Roundtable on Green Growth
b. Begin Implementation of the outcomes of the Roundtable
c. Planning of accompaniment visits and local and national levels
d. Send out invitations to the 1st regional talanoa

ii. Commence logistics and programme planning for the regional talanoa and the subregional consultation that would be dovetailed to the regional talanoa. This would include:
a. Selection of venue
b. Travel arrangements
c. Accommodation arrangements
d. Invitations to key resource persons

iii. Convene 1st regional talanoa of the Green Growth and Sustainability leaders Coalition. The key results from the regional talanoa are:
a. Set the tone of the programme.
b. Cover key issues relating to challenges and opportunities to impact sustainable development in Pacific region, and be used as a venue for broader discussions at the regional level; and
c. Provide expertise needed to solely generate discussions with a purpose of achieving greater understanding of the challenges for the region.
d. Be a safe space for the participating leaders to share their achievements and challenges.

iv. Convene the 2 sub-regional consultations immediately after the regional talanoa to:
a. Take up the issues generated at the regional talanoas.
b. To identify an area or sector of interest for personal project where they can influence a sector or issue on a national scale.
c. To develop a time-bound strategy for influence and impact.

v. Follow up on outcomes from the sub-regional talanoa with proposed communication through ICloud, and visitations.

vi. Planning of exposure visits and availability of resource persons for the accompaniment of the participating leaders in the implementation of their respective action plans.

vii. Annual Review with PLP and IUCN and Core Group of Leaders.


In addition (as expected of all Project Leaders in IUCN Oceania Regional Office):

Regional Integration
• Maintaining linkages with governments, CROP agencies, NGOs and partners working in a variety of sectors and seeking to incorporate environmental considerations into the various approaches and plans.

Leadership, planning and implementation
• Develop strategic plans and implement annual work programmes and project activities that contribute to the emergence of a strategic IUCN Oceania Regional Office Programme in collaboration with relevant IUCN Oceania staff, IUCN members and partners.
• Assist in identifying the need for and coordinating technical inputs of consultants and IUCN technical staff.
• Supervision of staff as appropriate.
• Representing IUCN and presenting seminars at national and international meetings; and assisting the development and maintenance of local, national, and regional working relationships with key partners.
• Ensure full compliance with procedures in the delivery of projects, specifically in relation to following donor guidelines.
• Reporting on project activities on regular basis, as required by IUCN or donors.

Communication
• Drafting and publishing project reports using appropriate language and feeding results into IUCN Oceania Regional Office communication activities;
• Development, as appropriate, of a communications strategy for the project.

IUCN Internal linkages
• Contributing towards the integration of projects, development of opportunities and future directions of the ORO Office of IUCN through participation in programme leaders’ meetings, production of monthly programme reports and as required.

Other duties
• Represent IUCN at appropriate national, regional and international forums.
• Carry out other duties as required by the Regional Director from time to time.

Annual budget of the project this position will manage: $150,000-$200,000 / year
