IBAT Biodiversity and Business Lead
|
This role sits within IUCN’s Business & Nature Global Team, who are responsible for developing and delivering a coherent and impactful programme of work that leverages IUCN’s knowledge, tools, metrics, and approaches to accelerate the adoption by companies of practices that deliver nature positive outcomes and societal benefits. This programme is delivered primarily through the development of private sector and public partnerships and action at the corporate, sectoral, supply chain, and regulatory levels.
The salary range for this position is between £42,000 to £47,000 per year, depending on experience and skills
The Biodiversity and Business Lead is responsible for supporting and strengthening IBAT’s engagement with businesses and financial institutions. The post holder will support IBAT’s users and key collaborators in the impactful use of biodiversity data, design and develop knowledge products to increase the uptake and reach of IBAT, and represent IBAT on the global stage. In doing so, the post holder will collaborate across the IBAT Secretariat, as well as with key counterparts across the IBAT Alliance.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Technical and scientific delivery
• Support IBAT’s users in the application of biodiversity data to understand biodiversity related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities
• Lead IBAT’s engagement and positioning within the biodiversity disclosure landscape, including TNFD, CSRD and SBTN
• Working across the IBAT team, and in conjunction with IBAT’s Product Manager, design and develop knowledge products to increase the uptake and impact of IBAT
• Collaborate with experts across the IBAT Alliance to develop and review methodologies for using biodiversity data in private sector applications
Cross cutting stakeholder engagement
• Liaise with IBAT’s Scientific Advisory Committee to ensure IBAT’s products and service offerings are scientifically robust
• Represent and promote IBAT on webinars and at events, including high level dialogues such as Conference of the Parties (COP)
• Engage with key collaborators to strengthen IBAT’s strategic partnerships
• Represent IBAT on technical working groups and sub committees
Capacity building, knowledge generation and communication
• Build the capacity of the IBAT team, particularly junior professionals, on business and biodiversity topics
• Develop and review content on biodiversity and business topics for a range of uses, including thought leadership pieces, blogs and newsletters
• Develop industry guidance, briefing notes and supporting materials on the application of biodiversity data

• • Master’s degree in Biodiversity, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Policy, Sustainability Management, or another relevant field required. Strong grounding in biodiversity, conservation, sustainable development and social science concepts and theory, beyond immediate field of expertise. • Minimum 8-10 years of experience, and minimum 5 required in engaging and working with the private sector on biodiversity themes. • Technical understanding of the evolving biodiversity disclosure landscape, including TNFD, CSRD, ESRS, SBTN, GRI and EUDR • Robust understanding of key biodiversity datasets, ideally the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, World Database on Protected Areas and World Database of Key Biodiversity Areas • Experience representing organisations at high level events • Experience in planning and developing messaging in terms of effective knowledge uptake, understands and can adapt to target audience. • Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, think laterally and resolve complex issues in a dynamic and changing environment. • Skilfully prioritizes, manages, and balances operational task flows and can identify, anticipate and address critical operational dependencies. Successfully manages competing demands and deadlines. • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail. • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in written and spoken French and/or Spanish is desirable. • Applicants must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom |
