Field Project Associate
|
From 2026 to 2028, the project will support the planting of 10 hectares of mangrove forest and assist 15 households in planting 20,000 mangrove trees on aquaculture land. Through this integrated approach, the project seeks to promote ecosystem recovery, support sustainable livelihood practices, and strengthen long-term resilience in coastal communities.
The Field Project Associate will support the Project Manager in implementing project activities in Vinh Long Province and may also support other Mekong Delta programme projects in provinces such as Can Tho and Ca Mau, as assigned.
The position is based in Vinh Long Province and requires periodic travel to project sites as needed for implementation and monitoring activities.
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in close coordination with the Project Owner and local authorities, the Field Project Associate will undertake the following:
1 Mangrove Restoration on Aquaculture Land
• Support identification and engagement of participating households (target: ~15 households).
• Assist in field assessments, mapping, and planning for mangrove–aquaculture models.
• Coordinate implementation of planting activities (~20,000 trees / 10 ha).
• Provide on-site support to households during planting and early maintenance stages.
• Monitor survival rates and document results.
2 Protective Mangrove Forest Planting
• Support implementation of planting activities for approximately 10 ha of coastal protection forest.
• Coordinate with contractors, technical agencies, and local communities.
• Monitor planting quality, site preparation, and compliance with approved technical designs.
• Support inspection, acceptance, and post-planting monitoring.
3 Community Capacity Building and Engagement
• Support organization of training sessions and support awareness-raising on mangrove protection and biodiversity conservation.
4 Monitoring, Data Collection, and Reporting
• Collect and maintain field data on:
- Number of households engaged
- Area planted and number of trees
- Survival rates and restoration outcomes
• Maintain documentation (photos, GPS points, reports).
• Prepare monthly field reports and contribute to donor reporting.
• Support tracking of NbS-related outcomes (ecosystem recovery, livelihood benefits).
5 Project Coordination and Administration
• Liaise with:
- Sub-Department of Forestry and Biodiversity Conservation
- Commune and district authorities
- Local communities and contractors
• Support organization of coordination meetings and field missions.
• Support the Programme Manager in preparing annual and final project reports, and provide inputs to other reports as requested by IUCN.
Expected Deliverables
• Monthly field progress reports.
• Monitoring reports on survival rates and restoration performance of mangroves.
• Monittoring report on the status and effectiveness of mangrove aquaculture models of households participating in the Project,
• Contributions to Project annual report.

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental science, fisheries, aquaculture, or a related field; • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in field-based project implementation; • Experience in mangrove restoration, coastal ecosystems, or community-based natural resource management is preferred; • Experience working with government agencies and local communities; • Familiarity with climate adaptation and NbS approaches is an advantage; • Strong field coordination and stakeholder engagement skills; • Good communication and facilitation skills; • Basic monitoring, data collection, and reporting skills; • Ability to work independently in field conditions; • Basic English skills, both written and spoken. |
