BACKGROUND
IUCN, represented by its Bangladesh Country Office, is implementing the “Updating Faunal Red List of Bangladesh” project in collaboration with the Bangladesh Forest Department. The project aims to assess the conservation status of faunal species of Bangladesh following the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria and to publish updated national Red List volumes.
To support the effective implementation of Red List assessment activities across multiple faunal groups, IUCN seeks to recruit a Project Assistant – Data Entry Operator (A2). The incumbent will provide technical, coordination, and administrative support to the project team and Red List Assessment Groups, while ensuring the accurate, timely, and standardized entry, management, and organization of species assessment information in the Red List database and associated digital platforms.
This is a local recruitment. Only Bangladeshi nationals are eligible to apply. The recruitment and benefits package for this position are established with reference to the local labour market and in line with the IUCN conditions of service for Bangladesh.
JOB DESCRIPTION
•MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative, the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Species and Habitats, and the functional supervision of the respective Red List Group Coordinators, the Project Assistant – Data Entry Operator will support the implementation of the Updating Faunal Red List of Bangladesh Project by ensuring the accurate, timely, and standardized entry, management, verification, and organization of species assessment data.

•SPECIFIC DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative, the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Species and Habitats, and the functional supervision of the respective Group Coordinators, the Project Assistant – Data Entry Operator will undertake the following specific responsibilities:

Uploading, organizing, and managing species datasets, GIS-related information, photographs, references, and supporting documents within project databases and digital repositories.
Compiling, organizing, digitizing, and maintaining species data, including taxonomy, distribution, population trends, habitat information, threats, conservation actions, and supporting references.
Conducting routine data verification and quality control checks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, completeness, and integrity of assessment information.
Coordinating with Lead Assessors, Co-assessors, Specialist Groups, and Red List Assessment Group (RAG) Coordinators to collect, update, and validate assessment data.
Assisting in the formatting, editing, and preparation of data and species accounts for Red List publications, reports, and web-based dissemination.
Supporting the development, updating, and maintenance of the web-based Red List portal and mobile application through backend data management and content organization.
Maintaining structured digital filing systems and implementing data backup procedures to ensure data security, accessibility, and long-term preservation.
Preparing summaries, datasets, progress reports, and statistical information required for project monitoring, reporting, and analysis.
Assisting in the preparation and organization of species data for validation workshops, stakeholder consultations, and public disclosure processes.
Providing coordination support to the RIMS Unit and assisting application developers by supplying, organizing, and validating data required for system development and enhancement.
Participate in project meetings, workshops, training events, and other project activities, while providing necessary administrative and logistical support for meetings, field activities, and workshops to ensure effective implementation of project activities.
Maintain confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive species information in accordance with Forest Department and IUCN data-sharing protocols.
Support administrative and logistical tasks related to meetings, field work, and workshops as required by the project plan.
Assist in supporting IT and communication teams for formulating Red List content for web portals and databases.
Perform any other tasks assigned by the Programme Manager, Species and Habitats, and group coordinator to support effective implementation of the Red List project.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Formal Education
-Master's degree in Geography, Forestry, Environmental Science, Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Management, or another relevant discipline from a recognized university.
-Candidates holding a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with an additional one (1) year of relevant professional experience demonstrating the required competencies will also be considered.

•Training & Professional Experience
-Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in data entry, database management, information management, or programme support functions, preferably within NGOs, conservation organizations, research institutions, or international development projects.
-Demonstrated experience in managing large datasets while ensuring data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and quality.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with experience using databases, spreadsheets, and digital information management systems.
-Experience with GIS data management, spatial datasets, or biodiversity databases will be considered an asset.
-Knowledge of biodiversity information systems, species assessment processes, or the IUCN Red List methodology is desirable.
-Experience supporting web-based information systems, mobile applications, or online databases is an advantage.
-Willingness to undertake field travel and work in both office and field environments as required.
-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
-Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and consistently meet deadlines.

-Ability to prepare technical reports, correspondence, presentations, and project documentation in English and Bangla.
