BACKGROUND
IUCN is a decentralized organization, whose work is supported by six Commissions comprised of scientific and policy experts around the world who provide their time and effort on a voluntary basis. The Secretariat is comprised of 160 staff at the Headquarters based in Gland, Switzerland and about 1000 staff in more than 40 locations worldwide. In addition, there are a number of locations where only project activities are carried out.

The Global Finance Group at Headquarters has a staff of 13 people and consists of two units: Financial Services and Budget and Financial Planning. The Head of Financial Services reports directly to the CFO and manages a team of five people.

The Head of Financial Services is responsible for the Headquarters accounting function and for the quality control of accounting and accounting processes worldwide. The position is responsible for the consolidation of global financial data, and the production of the annual statutory financial statements.

In addition, the position is responsible for the global treasury function. IUCN wishes to implement a global cash management system to improve returns on cash held, better manage foreign exchange risk and reduce transaction costs.

IUCN currently produces its financial statements in accordance with IUCN statutes, Swiss law and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The organization is moving towards compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

IUCN is in the process of implementing a global Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to provide a strong technical and financial infrastructure for the organization. The Head of Financial Services will have a key role in the implementation and in the modification of internal processes to improve efficiency and data quality and meet best practice standards.

SALARY

The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from CHF 138'080 to CHF 172'600, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Global management of the IUCN accounting function
- Responsible for the overall data integrity of IUCN’s global accounts.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes and the consolidation of all Secretariat accounting data.
- Produce the annual consolidated Financial Statements, ensuring compliance with IUCN accounting policies and Swiss law, and coordinate their external audit.
- Manage the accounting of hosted organizations (currently Ramsar) and the preparation of their statutory financial statements in accordance with the agreement between IUCN and the hosted organization.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures and guidelines, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of the organization.
- Maintain and implement improvements to the global IUCN Internal Control system, to safeguard the assets of the organization and to ensure compliance with Swiss law.
- Design and implement process improvements to ensure the economic, effective and efficient delivery of services.
- Lead the implementation of the accounting modules of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Microsoft Navision).

2. Management of Headquarters accounts
- Ensure the timely and accurate recording of all Headquarters’ financial transactions.
- Manage the accounts payable and receivables functions, ensuring effective control.
- Manage the timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.

3. Treasury management
- Manage the global treasury function to ensure that IUCN meets its financial commitments in a timely and efficient manner, whilst ensuring the protection of capital, maximising the income generated by IUCN’s cash and investments, and minimising the adverse effects of currency and asset fluctuations.

4. Other
- Manage and co-ordinate the Financial Services Unit team so as to optimise the use of available resources, build skills within the unit, and provide a consistent service to Headquarters staff and regional and country offices.
- Support the Finance and Audit Committee and other statutory bodies through the preparation of reports and attendance of meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
  • EXPERIENCE
•Professional accounting qualification (ACA, CPA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent).
• Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience including 5 years’ experience in a senior financial position.
• Experience in working in a management position in a multinational, multicultural environment, either in a major commercial company or international organization.
• Experience in process improvement and the implementation and use of integrated financial systems.
• Experience in statutory financial reporting in line with an internationally recognised reporting framework.
• Treasury management experience.
