This is a local recruitment. Only Myanmar nationals, individuals with residence status or the appropriate employment visa for Myanmar are eligible to apply. The remuneration and benefits package for this position is established with reference to the local labour market and in line with the IUCN conditions of service for Myanmar.

The CRPO will lead IUCN’s work on coastal and marine ecosystem management in Myanmar in line with the Ramsar “wise use” principles, and IUCN’s input on coastal and marine ecosystem management within the SDC Gulf of Mottama Project (GOMP) Phase 3, which runs from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2024.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

1 Support preparation and approval of township Ecosystem Management Unit (EMU) plans in the Gulf of Mottama (GOM) that are based on the Ecosystem-based Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) and address all aspects of coastal habitats and species of conservation value. Duties include:
• Draft text that integrates habitat and species conservation into EMU plans.
• Support capacity building of EMU committees, youths and CSOs involved in EMU plan implementation
• Ensure that the Ramsar requirements on “wise use” wetlands management are properly incorporated in the revised GOM Management Plan.
• Conduct research needed for habitat and species conservation and fishery management to make sure the evidence-based decision making in implementation of EMU and GoM Management Plan.
• Collaborate and coordinate with GoMP’s partner organizations on action research, capacity building, and implementation of EMU activities.

2 Lead the economic valuation study of mangroves and other coastal habitats and produce results and recommendations that feed into revised GOM management plan and inform government policy on coastal resource management. Duties include:
• Work with international economist to prepare training materials, including case studies from the GOM, on coastal resource valuation methods and results.
• Carry out ecosystem valuation studies of mangrove and mudflat in selected GOM areas.
• Serve as lead trainer for the ecosystem valuation to Point B.

3 Project management. Duties include:
• Prepare technical reports that are reflective, accurate, comprehensive, transparent and timely as per agreements.
• Engage in a strategic dialogue with GOMP consortium partners about the project as a whole and the outcomes they are responsible for in particular in order to assure cohesion in project implementation.
• Represent IUCN in the GOMP Project Steering Committee and toward external partners including donors, embassies, national and foreign universities, international research centers, and government partners.
