BACKGROUND
TRAFFIC is the leading non-governmental organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes. TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.
JOB DESCRIPTION
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

The Behaviour Change Support Manager will implement the projects related to behaviour change for the consumption of wildlife products under the guidance of the Line Manager and Global Senior Coordinator of Behaviour Change. This position is especially focused on behaviour change research and campaign delivery, and supporting government authorities to implement demand reduction for CITES listed species. The role also supports the development of behaviour change proposals, prepare technical reports, and exchange information related to wildlife trade.


SPECIFIC DUTIES

The main tasks of the Demand Reduction (DR) Programme Manager will include, but not be limited, to the following:
• Support the project management and development and implementation of a Demand Reduction (DR) Strategy with regard to the consumption of target species and other wildlife products in China;
• Support the implementation of Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) strategy, jointly defining/refining tools and methodologies, and overseeing the delivery of identified products and assets;
• Support relationships with relevant groups, organisations, academic and professional groups; government agencies, private sector, NGOs and others as identified in stakeholder analyses, the DR Strategy.
• Support to develop and define essential tools and mechanisms that can allow for testing defined approaches and follow-up/measure impact of the DR strategy;
• Learn, share, and apply expertise in behaviour change theories, frameworks, models and approaches to achieve project objectives, and adapting the application of these in line with an ‘adaptive management’ approach;
• Assist in communication project activities and goals to ensure wide-ranging impacts, including through international meetings, conferences and events, and with local and international media;
• Deliver quality on time and within budget on high profile projects.
• Ensure project technical and financial reports prepared following TRAFFIC and donor requirements in timely manner;
• Regularly report on progress of the DR work to Office Director, and ensure coordinated communication with TRAFFIC offices and take responsibility to ensure goals and objectives are met;
• Other responsibilities required by Line Manager.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A university degree and/or experience related to communications, if possible including demand reduction/behaviour change, which can be in a field beyond nature conservation: e.g. including consumer spending preferences, luxury product consumption, sustainable lifestyles, criminology, health and wellbeing, ‘good’ public conduct, road safety, anti-litter, drink driving, anti-gangs, drugs, etc.;
• Experience with international Non-Governmental Organizations, Inter-Governmental Organizations or Transnational Corporations;
• At least three years of relevant working experience;
• This position requires a pro-active person with a passion for conservation issues and the ability to stimulate and motivate colleagues;
• Demonstrated experiences in coordinating and supporting colleagues from different countries;
• Experiences in working with government agencies and industries would be an advantage;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a part of a multi-regional team;
• Self-starter, who can quickly and efficiently take up complex responsibilities;
• Strong networking skills and ability to work in different cultural contexts;
• Bilingual: fluent Chinese (Mandarin) and English skills with demonstrated working experiences;
• Strong writer and communicator: with the ability to write clear, engaging, compelling prose in English critical, in other languages desirable;
• Familiarity with standard word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, and with electronic communication technology;
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and under deadlines;
• Willingness to travel;
• The candidate must be a Chinese national.
