BACKGROUND
The Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation of IUCN (IUCN MED) is seeking a motivated candidate for the position of Ecosystem Programme Assistant, to substitute the actual Programme Assistant for maternity leave and help implementing the initiatives of the Ecosystem department of IUCN MED.
The programme assistant is expected to support the ongoing initiatives in terrestrial/freshwater ecosystems with special focus in plants and habitats conservation in the south and east Mediterranean.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1) Contribute to a leading initiative for plant and terrestrial habitats conservation in the south and east Mediterranean region. This initiative will document the status and distributions of selected rare and threatened plant species and habitats, and will showcase plant conservation activities undertaken on 20 Important Plant Areas in six countries (Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Montenegro, Turkey, and Macedonia). The project will work also at a regional scale, trying to raise plants profile in other territories like Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania. Estimated time dedication 60-80%.
a) Support in day to day relations with project partners, including regular correspondence with Mediterranean botanists, public administrations, NGOs and conservation experts in the field.

The annual gross salary for this position is 34.288 €
b) Support in the organization of any events, meetings, and training sessions as required by the project
c) Support in the organization of the work to ensure that activities are implemented in timely and effective manner, including managing contracts, and follow up deliverables
d) Support in the preparation of reports (technical and administrative) including ongoing activities, administrative procedures, and results achievement.
e) Contribute trough articles and public awareness including web based information and publications.
f) Other emerging tasks to ensure effective project implementation

2) Contribute to the development and implementation of other ongoing projects and initiatives under the Mediterranean Programme, in particular in terrestrial Ecosystem subjects (Protected Areas management effectiveness, forest management and restoration, ecosystem risk assessment, ecotourism…). Estimated time dedication 20-40%.
a) Interact with partners/members implementing projects in different countries with wide range of stakeholders (governmental representatives, community groups, experts and scientist…)
b) Support the Ecosystem department to communicate the results of the Programme.
c) Support in organization of events
d) Support in technical and administrative follow up of project with multiple set of partners
e) Undertake any other task/emerging issues at the request of the Programme Officer or the director to ensure the effective implementation of the programme.
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 3 years of experience in a position relevant to this vacancy

• Experience in the management of technical programme and projects, including project implementation, financial follow up, monitoring and evaluation, and technical reporting.

• Ability to work under pressure and within multi-national environment and different cultures

• Ability to manage institutional relationships with variety of partners and support multi-stakeholder initiatives

• Excellent command of written and spoken English and French are essential

• A strong aptitude and ability to communicate both informally and formally, including ability to prepare written communications (press releases, newsletters)

• Willingness to travel within the region
