IUCN is a membership base organization with over 1,400 Member organizations from States, government agencies, Sub-national authorities, NGOs as well as indigenous People’s Organizations. The Membership Manager is responsible for global membership recruitment campaigns, coordinating member admissions, and working closely with the membership team to onboard and engage Members in order to maximize the benefits of membership for both the Members and IUCN.
Membership recruitment

• To develop and implement campaigns to attract new IUCN Members across all membership categories (including States, governmental agencies, subnational governments, non-governmental organisations, and indigenous peoples’ organisations) in cooperation with the Membership Unit and regional Membership Focal Points. Activities include:
o Developing marketing materials and activities
o Coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating campaigns

Membership onboarding

• To coordinate and develop the membership application and admission process at a global level in cooperation with the regional Membership Focal Points in order to make the process as efficient and member-centric as possible (including develop an online membership application platform).
• In cooperation with the Membership Unit and regional Membership Focal Points:
o Develop and implement a standard onboarding package for different Member categories
o Conduct and develop the application and recognition process for National/Regional Committees of Members

o Keep up to date information on Members and Committees in the Constituency Relationship Management (CRM) system and support the development of the CRM to maximise the potential of the system to support relationship building with members
o Ongoing monitoring and improvement of the above activities based on feedback
o To coordinate membership dues within the Membership Unit, this includes preparing the Membership Dues Guide, reports, assisting the Global Finance Group with the preparation of invoices and reminders to Members and organising the reassessment of membership dues every four years.

Membership engagement

• Support the development and use of a new Members’ digital zone in cooperation with the Membership Unit, including content creation, Member engagement and development of new features (in English and French).
• Work with IUCN Centres and Regional Offices to package activities that will engage Members and add value to their membership in cooperation with the Senior Member Engagement Manager
• French-language support (translation/editing) for communications and documents.
• Support membership matters at the World Conservation Congress including:
o Managing the Members’ Accreditation process.
o Support the Senior Member Engagement Manager in the design of the Members’ Lounge.
o Coordinating the Sponsored Members Programme
• Coordinate with the Senior Member Engagement Manager, the preparation of the presentations for Regional Conservation Fora taking place every 4 years; be onsite as necessary.

Membership retention

• To research why Members leave and develop approaches to retain Members and attract former Members to re-join.

Governance support

• To coordinate and develop an electronic voting system for IUCN Members, inform Members how to vote and support them during the voting process, manage the accreditation process, prepare reports and statistics during and once the votes are complete.
• Coordinate with the Deputy Director General and Senior Governance Manager, the preparation, of the agenda, Chair’s brief and documentation, statistics and presentations (PPT) for the membership/constituency issues of the biannual (or more) meetings for the Governance and Constituency Committee (GCC) of IUCN Council.


• Supervise the Membership Administrative Assistant.
• Coordinate the planning and agenda of the regular (virtual and in person) Membership Focal Point meetings.
• Ensure follow up when necessary during absences of colleagues in the membership team.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.

• At least 3 years work experience in recruiting and/or engaging members for a national or international organisation.

• At least 3 years’ experience in conceiving and development communication and knowledge products in a range of formats such as reports, presentations, publications, brochures, policy briefs, web stories, press releases, short films, podcasts, etc.

• Interest in the environment, conservation and sustainable development, and experience in working for an organisation in these fields is an advantage.

• Fluency in spoken and written French (comparable to mother tongue) is essential as well as very good knowledge of English. Spanish desirable but not essential.

• Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures, proven ability to work in the Windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook) and to use the internet. Excellent knowledge/ease of use of excel is an absolute requirement.

• Ability to manage systems (including CRM) and train other staff on the use of these systems to support membership related work. Experience in designing and developing systems is a plus.
