BACKGROUND
The Climate Change Team is a thematic programme of the IUCN Secretariat, within the IUCN Centre for Economy and Finance that works under a mandate provided by IUCN membership with a focus on delivering key transformations in the conservation, restoration and management of ecosystems. CC works as a delocalised team across several IUCN duty stations with the majority of the staff divided between its Gland-based Headquarters, Bonn, and Washington D.C. office.

The incumbent will support the Programme Officer, Climate Change, in tasks related to the implementation of several global-scale climate change projects. The incumbent will support in reviewing technical documents, communications, and donor deliverables; and in ensuring the timely coordination of activities and reports among IUCN and partner offices. The Programme Assistant will support the production of quality and timely internal and external facing communications materials, webpages, and social media content for IUCN’s Climate Change Team, including for specific flagship projects including the Global EbA Fund, CBA SCALE, and Friends of EbA network.
JOB DESCRIPTION
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Global EbA Fund
a) Support grants management activities for Global EbA Fund including strategic planning of future calls for proposals, development of informational webinars for applicants, development of a grants management software to streamline and optimize grant selection and reporting process, contribute to reports to donor, etc.

b) Lead on developing and maintaining Global EbA Fund web and social media presence, to encourage innovative and catalytic proposals in alignment with IUCN, partner, and donor programmatic goals.

c)Manage general mailbox and respond to Fund inquiries from potential applicants.

Climate Adaptation Projects

d) Support work being done in on-ground implementation of the Community-Based Adaptation: Scaling up Community Action for Livelihoods and Ecosystems in Southern Africa and Beyond (CBA-SCALE Southern Africa+) project in Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

e) Collaborate with global colleagues, across IUCN and partner organisations, to evolve and grow IUCN's climate change adaptation portfolio. Foster connections across networks to expand the IUCN Climate Change presence.

f) Contribute to Climate Adaptation project proposals and project materials as needed, such as indicator frameworks, logic models, budgets, gantt charts, knowledge management, and other proposal needs as indicated by line-manager.

Communications

a) Coordinate development and maintenance of the IUCN Climate Change web presence, including on IUCN’s website and project websites (Global EbA Fund, FEBA etc.).

b) Develop informational material and content, in collaboration with the Climate Change team, for both general and technical audiences.

c) Produce content/materials for news stories and thought pieces on IUCN’s global climate change portfolio, as well as for Friends of EbA network publications, and for the Global EbA Fund portfolio.

FEBA

d) Support on coordination and implementation of Friends of EbA (FEBA) working groups, donor, and progress reporting, drafting and publishing of technical papers, and strategic communications structure, including liaising with FEBA Fellows.

e) Coordinate, develop, synthesize, and edit background research to draft papers and knowledge products and review technical reports for publication.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 3-4 years relevant work experience in fields related to ecosystem management, sustainable development, climate change, international development, and/or environmental science.

• A relevant university degree in a subject relevant to natural resources management, geography, international development, conservation science, environmental policy, etc.

• Well-developed computer skills (Word for Windows, Excel, e-mail)

• Good organizational, administrative and reporting skills

• Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously

• Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs

• Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas

• Excellent interpersonal skills; Proven ability to work harmoniously as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity

• Excellent written and spoken English required. Excellent editing skills will be highly desirable

• The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organization such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group. Being an international organization the institution reserves the right to re-assign duty stations for any internationally recruited position, after consultation with staff members and taking into account their personal circumstances.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is between USD 48'585 and USD 60'731. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
