BACKGROUND
We – IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, founded in 1948 – bring States, government agencies, NGOs and affiliates together in one mission: to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.
IUCN’s Climate Change Team is part of the Centre for Finance and Economy. This Centre focuses on building the case and establishing credible pathways to demonstrate and implement changes in financial systems to mobilise and direct the resources required to achieve global targets on biodiversity and climate change.

We are looking for you as our new Programme Officer, Climate Change. If you are interested in working at the highest climate policy fora interacting with high-level government officials and policy makers, as well as with local stakeholders and indigenous communities; and are confident in functioning effectively with multitasking and handling pressure in a fast-paced results-oriented environment with changing priorities; very good at synthesizing, analyzing, writing, and presenting information; and working within a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic team spread over various time zones, we are looking for you!

You will support the Head, Climate Change, and Senior Programme Officers while working closely with the IUCN Climate Change team based in Gland, Washington DC, and Bonn, in tasks related to the implementation of several global-scale Nature based Solutions for climate change adaptation projects.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Your responsibilities may include:

1.Coordinate the work being done under select Nature based Solutions (NbS) for Adaptation/Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA) Initiatives. This would entail working with colleagues across other Thematic Teams, Regions, Commissions, IUCN Members, and partners; compiling reports and synthesizing information, tracking of deliverables, and facilitation of high-level meetings and workshops.

2.Coordinate the work being done in strengthening evidence to inform and influence policy for NbS for climate change adaptation. This would entail working with relevant policy streams of UNFCCC, CBD, CCD and other fora; engaging with stakeholders around select policy discourses; planning and organising workshops and events, communications, and drafting and publication of issue briefs and technical papers.

3.Coordinate IUCN’s engagement in partnerships within global networks, and represent IUCN, leading functioning of various working groups, presenting and handling communications around them.

4.Coordinate the development of NbS for climate change adaptation knowledge products including technical/position papers, especially based on experiences and learning from implementation processes.

5.Coordinate programme development and respond to calls for proposals by identifying donor priorities, key internal and external stakeholders, and potential interventions, through liaising with IUCN regional and country offices and across Thematic Teams.

6.Carry out any other relevant task as assigned by, and agreed with, the line manager.
REQUIREMENTS
  • You have, at least, a graduate degree in climate change, disaster risk reduction, natural resources management, environmental science, global policy, or social sciences.

• With 5-7 years of multidisciplinary work experience in climate change adaptation, climate policy, conservation with human-centered approaches, climate-poverty nexus, etc.

• You are highly motivated to learn and develop new skills.

• You work independently, meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs and bring your own ideas and your excellent interpersonal skills

• You work harmoniously as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity

• You are flexible and adaptable and looking for a dynamic work environment

• English is (almost) your first language and desirably you can keep up a conversation in French or Spanish.
