GIS Officer
|
To provide GIS technical support on all aspects of the IUCN’s Marine Programme projects. This includes spatial data analysis to support the establishment of EEZ-wide marine spatial plans and other aspects of marine resource management.
Specific Duties:
•Provide GIS technical support on the implementation of the project activities undertaken in the five participating countries, including:
-liaison with national governments.
-assistance with delivery of training activities.
-supporting national and regional workshops, and
-the development of awareness materials and activities.
•Assist in the alignment of the Marine Programme’s spatial data management system with international metadata standards.
•Conduct spatial data analysis to prepare data and maps for use in climate smart and climate resilient marine spatial planning, conduct post-hoc accounting of candidate networks of ocean zones, national level consultations.
•Create maps from spatial data as required.
•Aid in the identification and resolution of spatial data issues that need urgent attention.
•Liaise with technical experts and contribute to the production of knowledge products.
•Represent the Marine projects at relevant meetings when required.
•Assist in the preparation of workplans, internal IUCN reports, and donor reports.
•Assist in the monitoring, and regularly reporting on the progress of the projects against the Marine Programme annual plan and agreed milestones for the programme in each country.

• Minimum of a first degree in the field of GIS. An Advanced University Degree in Marine or Coastal sciences, Development or Environmental Management would be considered favourably. • 3-5 years of experience in the use of geospatial tools and techniques in relation to the design or implementation of protected areas, locally managed marine areas, integrated coastal zone management, terrestrial spatial planning or marine spatial planning. • A proven record of experience and ability to conduct spatial data analysis including integrating climate relevant data sets and analysis into spatial planning processes • Strong PC-based computer analytical skills and knowledge of applications and software, including GIS-based programmes (MapInfo, QGIS, ArcGIS, ERDAS) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Access), Adobe (Photoshop). • Excellent command of written and spoken English including a demonstrated ability in report writing. • An ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences and cultures. • Highly organized, reliable and able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines. • Must be able to travel within the Pacific region when required. |
