BACKGROUND
The functions of Communications and Private Sector Engagement in IUCN Asia are led by the Head, Asia Communications and Private Sector Engagement. This is based on the understanding that there is a strong link between IUCN’s branding and communications work and its engagements with private sector.

The Regional Communications Manager position will provide all required support to the Head, Asia Communications and Private Sector Engagement in managing this dual portfolio successfully, especially with regards to creating synergies across the region and leveraging available resources.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Head, Asia Communications and Private Sector Engagement, the Regional Communications Manager will be responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on communications products and activities for the IUCN Asia Programme and its regional projects, and for supporting communications around private sector engagement activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1 IUCN ASIA CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
1.1 Support implementation of the IUCN Asia strategic plan for communications with the goal of raising the profile of the organization among key target audiences, support fundraising and external relations, and maximise policy impact.
1.2 Provide IUCN brand management and communications quality control in the Asia Region and ensure staff understand and adhere to communications guidelines and protocols.
1.3 Provide technical support to Communication Focal Points in Country Offices and regional projects, in close collaboration with the Head of Asia Communications.
1.4 Provide support to regional media relations and public relations efforts, including at major regional and global events.
1.5 In collaboration with the Head of Asia Communications and Private Sector Engagement, develop and produce a range of high-quality online, digital and printed knowledge assets in support of IUCN Asia’s programmatic objectives.
1.6 Oversee and manage production processes including sub-contracting.
1.7 Lead internal communications initiatives within IUCN Asia region which will build team spirit and align all staff behind the region’s strategic vision and programmatic objectives.
1.8 Manage IUCN Asia website and social media accounts
1.9 Monitor and evaluate all aspects of communications activities and provide reports on a regular basis.

2 REGIONAL PROJECT COMMUNICATIONS
Provide support for communications and outreach efforts for a number of large regional projects, including Mangroves for the Future; Ecosystems for Life; BRIDGE; Mekong Water Dialogues; Building Resilience to Climate Change Impacts; and CEPF. Ensure communications for these projects is effective, strategic, results-oriented, and consistent with IUCN Asia communications objectives and practices.

3 PRIVATE SECTOR ENGAGEMENT
Support the Head, Asia Communications and Private Sector Engagement in producing proposals, presentations and other materials in support of the region’s private sector engagement program, and supporting publicity efforts and relationship management for private sector partners.

4 GLOBAL LIAISON
4.1 Serve as the focal point for the Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) in Asia.
4.2 Coordinate with Global Communications programme to optimize effective use of resources and programmatic alignment.

5 OTHERS
Carry out any other duties you may be called upon to perform from time to time by your supervisor.

Please Note: The above TOR contains the main responsibilities and duties of this position. However in an ever evolving organisation such as IUCN staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular TOR. Where any task becomes a regular part of staff member’s responsibilities, the TOR should be changed in consultation between the manager, the staff member and the HR Unit. Any one of the three may initiate the consultation.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A degree in communications/journalism/PR or a related field.

• At least 5 to 7 years hands-on communications experience in a complex organization, preferably gained at regional or global levels.

• Exceptional written and verbal communications skills with high level of attention to detail and ability to produce a wide range of document types and materials for different audiences.

• Successful track record of engaging with regional media, ideally with solid contact base of regional media contacts.

• Sound understanding of communications principles and techniques, including strategic communications planning and brand management, and experience with social media and website management.

• Entrepreneurial self-starter with strong organizational skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment and who can juggle multiple priorities effectively.

• A broad understanding of conservation issues, and values congruent with those of IUCN

• Credible experience working in multicultural environments.

• Previous experience in communications in South and Southeast Asia. (Preferable)

• Knowledge of Asian languages. (Preferable)
