BACKGROUND
JOB DESCRIPTION
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

High-impact programmatic and project knowledge development

• Support the development of knowledge uptake plans, targeted outreach frameworks and other approaches to ensure that the delivery of the programme and GFCCP projects are underpinned by the generation and utilisation of high quality knowledge products;
• Transform lessons and experience from GFCCP activities into industry standard, evidence-led information, peer-reviewed science and knowledge products and outreach materials;
• Collaborate with colleagues to lead in the development, planning and coordination of knowledge and outreach strategies for specified business lines (Primary Forests, Locally Controlled Forests and Slowing Global Deforestation) ensuring programmatic coherence in messaging, and deliver on knowledge, outreach and policy strategies for all GFCCP business lines.

Targeted outreach, streamlined production and design for all business lines

• Manage the production and dissemination of high quality and evidence-based outreach and marketing materials in a variety of formats;
• Produce and design GFCCP digital assets and products including, but not limited to web stories, arborvitae newsletters, videos, shorthand social, and embrace innovations in the digital communications field;
• Design physical event spaces for all business lines;
• Design, layout, perform final editing and promotion of print assets and products for all business lines, including, but not limited to forest briefs, policy and other briefs, brochures, banners, flyers and selected reports;
• Maintain GFCCP's online presence by developing high-quality website content and managing existing web portals;
• Engage key audiences, promote regular interactions, and track efficacy through online, social and traditional media channels.

Communications and capacity building

• Influence and contribute to IUCN's global communications and media engagement on slowing the global deforestation rate, forest landscape restoration and locally controlled forests;
• Build collaborative relationships with knowledge and communications staff of other international and regional organisations working on issues relevant to GFCCP;
• As appropriate, support the programme by planning and conducting training workshops, seminars, meetings and learning events;
• Liaise with national and regional IUCN teams to address capacity needs and requirements, and support efforts to build a community of practice around communicating forest issues;
• Serve as GFCCP liaison with the IUCN Global Communications Unit and other communications programmes within the Secretariat;
• Support and originate innovative solutions to communications, internal systems and knowledge uptake pathways including, but not limited to creating internal communications strategies;
• Assist GFCCP staff with the publications process, and manage contracts for outreach, publications, website, video and other services.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Advanced university degree or equivalent in knowledge management, communications, international development, natural resources management or a related field

• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management and communications in relevant fields

• Proficient in desktop publishing (Adobe Creative Suite) and other communications and design applications

• Knowledge and practical experience of approaches for effective knowledge uptake and communications

• Demonstrated interest in science and environmental issues and ability to grasp new material quickly

• Ability to write and edit English across multiple formats at a professional level, able to speak English clearly and effectively and to tailor communication to target audiences

• Experience working with technical experts, preferably in a multicultural context

• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities

• Ability to travel extensively

• Experience working with video is an advantage

• Fluency in French or Spanish is an advantage
