Location:   Headquarters, Gland, Switzerland
Reporting to:   Associate Director
Work percentage:   100%
Grade:   P2
Expected start date:   01 July 2018
Type of contract:   Max-term (42 months)
Closing date:   18 May 2016 (extended)
BACKGROUND
IUCN’s Global Protected Areas Programme (GPAP) works alongside IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) to deliver knowledge, guidance and best practice to networks of professionals and practitioners engaged in and with protected and conserved areas, worldwide. http://www.iucn.org/about/work/programmes/gpap_home/
The IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas (GLPCA) is a priority initiative that advances several programme priorities of the IUCN GPAP and the WCPA. The GLPCA aims to contribute to the quality of protected and conserved areas worldwide by introducing a new Standard for protected area performance. The Standard will help protected areas achieve conservation outcomes through encouraging improved design, fair governance and effective management. For the new development phase, starting in 2016, approximately 20 jurisdictions are partnering with IUCN. WCPA members and other experts are convening in each country to apply the GLPCA process and engage with their protected area constituency. Critical to this effort is excellent coordination and communications between all partners, and follow-up and evaluation of progress and opportunities as the programme develops. This position would play a key role in helping manage the growing community of experts, practitioners, policy-makers and general public, ensuring strong foundations for growth and support for the programme. http://www.iucn.org/about/work/programmes/gpap_home/gpap_quality/gpap_greenlist/
