TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. We actively monitor and investigate wildlife trade and provide information to diverse audiences worldwide as a basis for effective conservation policies and programmes. TRAFFIC is a strategic alliance of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and is an international network, organised into seven regional programmes.

TRAFFIC, in partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has been chosen to lead implementation of the ‘Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species’ (ROUTES) partnership over five years. ROUTES brings together international conservation organizations, the transportation and logistics industry, donors and government agencies in an innovative partnership to disrupt wildlife trafficking by reducing the use of legal transportation supply chains. TRAFFIC requires a ROUTES Project Officer, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation to coordinate ROUTES partnership activities, and oversee and coordinate the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning requirements of the ROUTES Partnership.

The salary for this role is £38,000 - £42,000 p.a. dependent on skills and experience.

Characteristic Duties

• Responsible for the management, coordination and reporting of the ROUTES Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Plan.
• Conducts research and analysis, provides strategic guidance and direction for ROUTES, and supports delivery of project management, monitoring and evaluation and related activities.
• Researches and synthesizes information and trends on illegal wildlife trade and the transport sector to inform strategic direction and activity design.
• Ensures monitoring data is applicable to and informs assessments of the ROUTES Theory of Change.
• Contribute to the planning, coordination, communication and implementation of programmatic activities for TRAFFIC under the USAID funded ROUTES Partnership.
• Communicates the work and results to interested institutions including the TRAFFIC Network, the ROUTES Partners, donors, and the general public and identifies opportunities for collaboration on ROUTES.

Specific Duties

• Responsible for the delivery, tracking and reporting of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Plan of ROUTES.
• Performs advanced research to inform and advances policy, and engages major NGO and private sector partners on wildlife trade issues and trends that align with the ROUTES Partnership. Synthesizes these issues, applies insights to influence priority-setting, investments and field activities to great effect.
• Collects and manages Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning data in liaison with ROUTES partners and provides quality control of the data.
• Provides data, reports, and advances development of the collaborative approaches of ROUTES to partners and the wider community.
• Builds Monitoring and Evaluation capacity with ROUTES partners and continue to provide support.
• Works directly with field project personnel, donors, consultants, and others to facilitate coordination, communication, and regular reporting of activities.
• Responsible for the compilation of activity level reporting submitted by Routes partners, and submission in a timely manner.
• Reviews the status of activity level delivery for TRAFFIC, identifies problems and formulates recommendations for corrective action as appropriate.
• Contributes to the development of communication material for ROUTES and extending understanding of wildlife trafficking issues.
• Represents TRAFFIC and the ROUTES Partnership with internal and external audiences as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
