JOB DESCRIPTION
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Using the results of the data and information analysis and fisheries research, work with sector specialists and organize, in coordination with relevant Outcome 1 and 2 team members, public consultations to prepare a draft management plan and management system that is consistent with the Ramsar wise use principles and international best practice in wetlands management.

2. Compile and review data and information on the state of fisheries, socio-economic trends, institutional and governance structures, and policies, strategies, and studies relevant to the lives of coastal communities and ecosystems, including climate change impacts and historical records of major disasters.

3. Coordinate and cooperate with the Marine Science Department of Mawlamyine University and Prince Songkla University in Thailand to foster long-term collaboration on fisheries research and policy advocacy, including state governments, Myanmar Fisheries Federation, and other influential stakeholders.

4. In coordination with Outcome 1 team members, organize consultations with local communities, state governments, MOECAF, and other key stakeholders to review and get feedback on the draft management plan and management system.

5. Participate in relevant activities under Outcomes 1 and 2.

6. Participate in and contribute to relevant team coordination and planning meetings, and project organized training and other team building events.

7. Carry out other relevant tasks assigned by, and mutually agreed with, the line manager.

Please note: The above TOR contains the main responsibilities and duties of this position. However in an ever evolving organisation such as IUCN staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular TOR. Where any task becomes a regular part of staff member’s responsibilities, the TOR should be changed in consultation between the manager, the staff member and the HR Unit. Any one of the three may initiate the consultation.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 5 years experience in coordinating large complex conservation and development projects.

• Familiarity with the fisheries sector.

• Demonstrated experience in multi-stakeholder/multi-level coordination and dialogue, e.g. different levels of government; private and civil society sector; community groups.

• Familiarity with relevant legal/policy framework; governance.

• Excellent communication skills: formal/non formal; mediation; diplomatic; public speaking.

• Strong facilitation, convening, analysis and strategy development skills.

• Capacity to speak relevant local language,

• Familiarity/experience in the southeast is desirable,

• Willing to be based in either Mawlamyine or one of the project townships in Bago or Mon State is desirable;

• Capacity to develop IEC/communication materials.
