BACKGROUND
The assistant will be working on the developing and implementation of a European project in the Mediterranean: the 32 month-project, Posbemed2 (Governance and management of Posidonia beach- dune systems across the Mediterranean) as well as the Mediterranean project "A collaborative approach for understanding multi-taxa ‘bycatch’ of vulnerable species in Mediterranean fisheries and testing mitigation" (Med Bycatch Project).

Posbemed2 project aims to integrate previous Mediterranean works and offer common sustainable tools with a transnational joint management strategy to integrate management of the coastal habitats with seagrass meadows, beaches and dunes. Within the activities planned with the Project Partners and in cooperation with Associated Partners, this project will:

- Implement a local framework for decision making for Posidonia banquettes, considering beach functions and their integration into the ecosystem where protected areas are located.
- Increase awareness of stakeholders and support their participation through engagement activities to enhance their understanding of the value of Posidonia coastal/marine landscapes
- Provide better integration planning tools to be incorporated into management planning and coastal policies where the Posidonia littoral zone occurs, across the Mediterranean.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The marine project assistant will help the Project Coordinator with the implementation of the workplan established with the partners. He/she will assist the Project Coordinator in the following roles and responsibilities:


- Assist on preparation of contracts and related documentation
- Assist in the preparation of progress reports and guidelines, ensuring quality, deadlines and submission to the donors.
- Support in the preparation and logistics of project events (flights, accommodation, logistic notes…) for the capacity building and other related events.
- When need it, participate to key communication and promotion events as requested by the project
- Assist on the implementation of the communication and testing phases of the project.
- Support the communication plan including the communication media strategy in collaboration with the rest of the partnership and in coordination with the Corporate Department.
- Support other ongoing initiatives of the IUCN Med Marine department in the creation, delivery and dissemination of key messages and dissemination of the department’s activities;

For the Multispecies Bycatch project, the assistant will contribute by:

- Prepare communication material on multispecies bycatch
- Assist to facilitate the Mediterranean sharks initiative
- Assist on the preparation of session for the 7th IUCN World Conservation Congress on this thematic.


The annual gross salary for this position is 26.710 €
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 2 years of experience in environmental management projects or project management

• Strong communication and presentation skills and an ability to prepare appropriate and timely reports

• Good knowledge and background especially in the thematic (vulnerable marine species and coastal management) within the Mediterranean region

• Proven experience in administrative and technical assistance (including planning, implementation, budgeting, and monitoring) of conservation activities

• Editorial ability of proven technical, communication outreach and administrative documents

• Knowledge of marine conservation areas issues and their linkage with livelihoods and sustainable development issues
