BACKGROUND
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative, IUCN India, and direct supervision of the Manager, Programme, Constituency and Administration, IUCN India, the Project Associate, CwU will work on matters relating to forest and climate change and support to build in-house capacity of IUCN India in these areas.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
The Project Associate will support the Manager, Programme, Constituency and Administration, in the implementation of the project ‘Coping with Uncertainty: Building Community Resilience and Ecosystem Based Adaptation to Climate Change in the Indian Himalayan Region (CwU)‘, and other ongoing project besides, proposal writing, and interaction with donors to expand the portfolio of forest and climate change programme in India. The specific duties include:

• Implement the assigned project (CwU) in compliance with established methodologies and as per the project guidelines
• Communicate with potential decision-makers and investors for the economic and financial viability of forestry as potential option for climate change adaptation and mitigation in India.
• Coordinate and review field reports, organize workshops/meetings and monitor progress against the implementation of project activities.
• Ensure timely delivery of quality project progress (technical and financial) reports to reporting unit as well as the supervisor.
• In collaboration with the line manager, draft new project proposals for engagement especially with the corporate sector to support forest and climate change programme in India
• Carry out any other duties as per advice of the line manager and the Country Representative, IUCN India. This includes providing assistance in implementation/communication of other forestry and climate change and private sector related projects and providing support as may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Post-Graduate Diploma either in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or environment related topics.

• A minimum of 3 years of proven experience working in the development sector, and more specifically with communicating forestry and climate change projects.

• Knowledge of Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) both on strategy and implementation a distinct advantage.

• Experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation and bringing different sectors and stakeholders together.

• Experience in organizing meetings, including high-level meetings.

• Affinity to work on sustainability issue within the context of sustainable development and more specifically biodiversity and ecosystems.

• Excellent skills in written and spoken English are required.

• Knowledge of the local language (India) is a must.
