BACKGROUND
This is a local search of young talent and only nationals of the duty station (India) are eligible to apply.

This internship aims to offer students undergoing graduate or post-graduate studies and recent graduates a meaningful work experience by supplementing their learning through a practical and on-the-job training approach. In doing so, the intern’s knowledge is supplemented through a practical learning experience while IUCN derives some level of advantage from the young professional’s services as well as the possibility of gaining new perspectives from the intern.

The monthly stipend for this internship is INR 27,500 (all-in).
JOB DESCRIPTION
INTERNSHIP INFORMATION
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative, IUCN India, and direct supervision and mentoring of the Manager, Programme, Constituency and Administration, IUCN India, four (4) Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) will be provided guidance on, and assist with conducting research and development for Building Community Resilience and Ecosystem Based Adaptation to Climate Change and support to build in-house capacity of IUCN India in these areas.

SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS
The JRFs will support the Manager, Programme, Constituency and Administration in the implementation of ‘Coping with Uncertainty: Building Community Resilience and Ecosystem Based Adaptation to Climate Change in the Indian Himalayan Region (CwU)‘ project by conducting the necessary research and development to meet the project objectives and deliverables. The specific learning opportunities of the JRFs include:

• Training on conducting research and in assisting with the review of Climate Change (CC) Action Plans and drafting of the appropriate adaptation plan and network by use of latest knowledge and methodology and following the project guidelines;
• Assist in reviewing and analyzing field reports and in organizing workshops/meetings towards implementation of project activities;
• Training on development of new project proposals to support forest and climate change programme in Indian Himalayan Region;
• Carry out any other duties as may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • The intern/JRF must have at least a completed Master’s Degree in any one of the following fields of study: Forestry, Agriculture, Environment, Communications Technology with .NET or equivalent*, or Atmospheric Science/Remote Sensing and GIS

*.NET or equivalent:
i. CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lecturership
ii. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MHRD
iii. Joint Admission Test (JAM) conducted by MHRD
iv. Biotechnology Eligibility Test & Test conducted in Bio-informatics by Bio-informatics National Consortium
v. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology & Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) conducted by Department of Atomic Energy.
vi. All India Competitive Examination (AICE) conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.


• Preferably with at least one (1) year of experience in conducting scientific and/or operational research in a related field

• Prior experience with climate change adaptation and mitigation will be desirable

• Ability to work on sustainability issues within the context of sustainable development and more specifically, biodiversity and ecosystems

• Excellent command of English (written/verbal) is essential

• Proficient in using office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other web-based systems and tools
