BACKGROUND
JOB DESCRIPTION
• In close cooperation with the Senior Policy Manager(SPM), monitor and track EU policy developments to identify relevant communications opportunities.
• Prepare with the SPM the IUCN EU Policy update.
• Provide editorial support and advice to colleagues on style and format of communication products
• Maintain linkages with Global Communications Unit in terms of IUCN Communication requirements and updates
• Produce newsletters, blogs, web stories, articles, brochures, fact sheets editorials and publications for IUCN and external channels
• Develop and maintain the IUCN contact database with key and targeted contacts
• Develop and manage the IUCN European Region web pages and ensure regular updates
• Maintain and enhance social media presence
• Support the preparation and organisation of events to promote IUCN’s knowledge and policy and increase visibility with target audiences in Europe
• Proactively engage with media and identify other outreach opportunities aimed at increasing the visibility and policy impact of the IUCN Brussels office and the individual projects the office is involved in - maintain contacts with journalists and media outlets to promote IUCN’s European and Global messages, communications products & events
• Implement the communications components of projects that the office is engaged in, where applicable; keeping track of commitments and deadlines; liaise with other partners specifically related to the communication aspects of the SWOS and AQUACROSS projects and LIFE programme
• Assist colleagues in the preparation of project proposals and reports
REQUIREMENTS
  • 2-3 years of previous experience in a relevant field (communications, public relations, journalism, biodiversity conservation)

• Strong writing and editing skills

• University degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, environmental science or other relevant field

• Knowledge and practical experience of approaches for effective communications; ability to present complex information in a clear and effective manner and to tailor communications to target audiences

• Relevant IT skills, including website management and other communications applications

• Experience in working with social media, video, ICT and/or other outreach approaches and tools

• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential (native speaker or equivalent). Knowledge of other European languages (especially French) would an advantage
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is EUR 32'333. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
