Project Officer
|
This position will be supervised by the Senior Programme Manager of BBP, will be based in IUCN Brazil in Brasilia, and work in close coordination with the IUCN Brazil office. The work of the Business and Biodiversity Programme (BBP) is guided by the IUCN Business Engagement Strategy (BES) that outlines a vision of a sustainable global economy in which businesses are committed and effective partners in achieving a just world that values and conserves nature. The Business and Biodiversity Programme is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the strategy across the organization and identifying innovative approaches for engaging the private sector in achieving conservation outcomes. The position will support the BBP and IUCN Brazil in providing technical support to the Rio Doce Panel, a five-year initiative focused on the restoration of the Rio Doce Basin.
The Project Officer will play a technical support role in coordinating the activities of IUCN in Brazil in support of the Rio Doce Panel. The main responsibility will include providing technical support to the Panel Chair and the Panel, as well as serve as a technical knowledge resource and liaison to the IUCN Secretariat and other stakeholders.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
•Support the BBP Programme Management in the project management of the Rio Doce Panel, including planning, budgeting, reporting and coordination.
•Facilitate the development and implementation of the Panel’s strategic planning and workplan, helping ensure the alignment of all products to the priorities identified and the Panel’s Terms of Reference and delivery of products according to the timeline;
•Contribute content for and review of communications materials and translations;
•Organize documentation, including on project finance and reporting;
•Coordinate translation (primarily done by a third party) of relevant materials between English and Portuguese;
•In consultation with the Panel Chair and BBP Senior Program Manager lead the preparation of RDP meetings and visits to Brazil, as well as periodic video conference meetings of the Panel, including logistics, and agendas;
•Generate minutes from RDP meetings and other relevant meetings between the Panel and Brazilian stakeholders as needed in Portuguese and English;
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
•Coordinate technical resource information and materials for the RDP and IUCN on issues related to the work of the Rio Doce Panel;
•Provide technical input to the process of developing products and deliverables, including reviewing and reference checking the Panel’s draft issue papers and thematic reports; ?
•In collaboration with the RDP Communications Officer, manage an online library of documentation relevant to, and also produced by the RDP;
•Support the Panel Chair in the preparation of Panel documents;
COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH
•Support the IUCN Brazil Office and BBP Senior Programme Manager in ensuring that relevant stakeholders, and particularly IUCN Brazil Members, are kept informed of the RDP’s work;
•Collaborate with the IUCN team in Brazil on a periodic basis on relevant projects, time permitting dependent upon priorities and workload related to the Rio Doce Panel.
•Serve as the principal regular liaison with corresponding focal point(s) in the Renova Foundation

• At least 3-5 years of previous experience in implementing projects, with biodiversity and/or sustainable development issues, business engagement, strong research and writing skills; • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; Some level of academic training in natural resource management • Excellent spoken and written English and Portuguese is essential; • Ability to rapidly research, analyse and integrate diverse information from varied sources; • Proven ability to synthesize and communicate complex information, including reports and meeting minutes; • Project management experience highly desired; • Demonstrated capacity to work well under pressure and successfully manage multiple deadlines and competing demands; • Relevant IT skills, familiarity with Microsoft office, PowerPoint and excel programmes; • Ability to deal with sensitive information • Ability to deal with very diverse audience and publics from high management to community based teams; • Some travel (15-20%) required in Brazil and perhaps internationally • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Academic training in natural resource management • Excellent spoken and written English and Portuguese is essential; Knowledge of Spanish is beneficial • Ability to rapidly research, analyze and integrate diverse information from varied sources; knowledge of research protocols and information access and management • Proven ability to synthesize and communicate complex information, including reports and meeting minutes; • Project management experience; • Demonstrated capacity to work well under pressure and successfully manage multiple deadlines and competing demands; • Relevant IT skills, in particular with online communication platforms for video conferencing and other collaboration; • Ability to deal with very diverse audience and publics from high management to community based teams; • Some travel (15-20%) required in Brazil and perhaps internationally • Monthly salary base: BRL 7,000.00. The person will be contracted according to the Brazilian law (CLT), plus benefits. |
