Fairwild Support Officer
TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature, and is managed in a way that helps meet human needs. TRAFFIC is a strategic alliance of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). TRAFFIC’s current global conservation programme is structured around two work streams – Red (Wildlife Crime) and Green (Benefits from Trade). Unsustainable harvesting and trade in wild plants threatens the survival of many of species and associated livelihoods. In order to address this issues and increase the benefits from sustainable and equitable trade, TRAFFIC, IUCN, WWF and other partners have developed best practice guidance on sustainable wild-harvesting and trade: the FairWild Standard. Since 2008 the FairWild Standard is maintained by the FairWild Foundation, (a Swiss registered charitable foundation). The support to the development and implementation of the FairWild Standard is formalized institutionally within TRAFFIC through a Partnership Agreement running through to 2020.
This role is a maternity cover position. Interviews for the position are planned for 18/19 December 2017.
The salary scale for this position is £27,000 - £30,000 p.a. (Pro Rata), dependent on skills and experience
The FairWild Support Officer is responsible for the following duties:
• Support to Board of Trustees including organization of meetings and preparation of minutes.
• Support to the preparation of the Foundation’s annual budget.
• Implementing policy and actions agreed by the Trustees of the Board with regard to trademark and copyright.
• Reviewing and clearing for invoicing or payment financial transactions as authorized in the FairWild Foundation financial policies, and managing financial reporting during the year (quarterly reports, grant reports).
• Promoting the objectives and activities of the Foundation to private and public sector organisations and potential partners.
• External communications including raising profile and responding to questions on the Foundation and the FairWild Standard.
• Maintaining the FWF website (www.fairwild.org).
• Monitoring and handling correspondence to general FairWild email addresses.
• Assisting in fundraising for corporate and program activities, and maintaining donor relationships.
• Development and maintenance of relationships with partners.
• Providing the certification scheme administration, including processing registrations, risk analyses, accreditation contracts.
• Maintaining relationships with licence holders and certifiers, and monitoring implementation of licence terms.
• Provide support to the task teams established by the Board of Trustees and facilitating information flow between these bodies.
• Organising events and conferences according to the yearly planning.
• Additional responsibilities assigned by FairWild Foundation.
• Master's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as natural resources management, sustainable development, corporate social/environmental responsibility;
• Experience with the private sector (non-timber forest products, organic products, herbal and botanical products, certification label schemes, fair trade initiatives) and understanding of the medicinal plants sector and trade;
• Strong organizational and communication abilities, including attention to detail;
• Skills in project administration, information management, and project finance;
• Ability to work independently and under pressure, set own work priorities, self-motivate; and a capacity to meet deadlines;
• Fluency and excellent writing skills in English, with competency in any additional languages (especially German) being an advantage;
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
• Expertise in MS Office computer software applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Website editing, InDesign, and OneDrive.
