Research & Analysis Support Officer
The salary grade for this position is £27,000 - £32,000 p.a. (dependent on skills and experience)
Working under the supervision of the Science, Research and Analysis Coordinator the Research and Analysis Support Officer will carry out project implementation both of projects implemented through TRAFFIC International and where necessary projects being implemented in the regions. Although the majority of work will be undertaken in the UK, the position may include project related travel abroad periodically. The Research and Analysis officer should already have experience working in conservation as well as good skills in research and analysis.
• Collates and analyses data on wildlife use and trade.
• Undertakes project implementation research work.
• Researches and consults as necessary on agenda items in preparation for CITES Plants Committee and Animals Committees and Conferences of the Parties.
• Assists with fundraising for Analyses of Proposals to Amend the CITES Appendices.
• Researches and writes on IUCN/TRAFFIC Analyses and the production of the TRAFFIC Recommendations. Assists with the final production and distribution of the outputs in collaboration with the team.
• Contributes to the development and implementation of the Research and Analysis Programme’s work including proposal development and fund-raising.
• Supports and collaborates the TRAFFIC network with promoting and embedding the Evidence for Influence approach
• Engages with SSC and other IUCN programmes on other research projects relevant to wildlife use and trade.
• Masters qualifications or higher in ecology, conservation biology, wildlife resource management or related field.
• Strong research, analytical (including statistical analysis and GIS), writing and organizational skills, including attention to detail;
• Understanding of wildlife trade and use issues.
• Experience in international wildlife conservation, preferably with government or an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) / Inter-governmental Organisation (IGO);
• Knowledge of international nature conservation laws and agreements, particularly the CBD and CITES.
• Experience of working within the CTIES forum, preferably having attended a technical committee.
• Understanding of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
• An understanding of certification schemes would be beneficial.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure and to set own work priorities as appropriate and a capacity to meet deadlines.
• Ability to undertake work related travel when and where necessary.
• Must be eligible to live and work in the UK
