Intern - Ecosystem based Adaptation

RESPONSIBILITY
The incumbent will support the Programme Manager and Programme Officer, Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA), in tasks related to the implementation of several global-scale climate change adaptation projects. He or she will provide assistance in reviewing technical documents, communications, and donor deliverables; and in ensuring the timely coordination of activities and reports among IUCN and partner offices. In addition, the incumbent will support EMP’s engagement in partnerships on EbA, ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (ecoDRR) and mangrove conservation, particularly through the Friends of EbA, PEDRR, and with USAID, UN SDG-Mangroves Initiative, and the Global Mangrove Alliance.
a) Assist in coordinating the work being done under the Scaling Up Mountain Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA) project (Nepal, Peru, Uganda, Bhutan, Colombia, & Kenya). This would entail compiling progress reports and synthesizing info into one joint report.
b) Assist in coordinating the work being done under the project Ecosystem Based Adaptation: Strengthening the evidence and informing policy. This would also entail compiling progress reports and synthesizing info into one joint report.
c) Assist in developing and generating knowledge through the formulation and application of Nature based Solutions and Ecosystem based Adaptation Standards and action learning exercises in select countries.
d) Support coordination under partnerships including PEDRR, the Friends of EbA and the Global Mangrove Alliance, e.g. drafting communications, reviewing joint technical papers, and tracking deliverables.
e) Support the preparatory work on technical/position papers on EbA.
f) Assist in the EbA webpage maintenance, including uploading relevant material.
g) Carry out any other relevant task as assigned by, and agreed with, the line manager.

• Affinity with the vision and mission of IUCN and a strong interest in nature conservation and sustainable development; • A relevant university degree (preferably a post-graduate degree) in a subject relevant to natural resources management, geography, international development, conservation science, environmental policy, etc. • Well-developed computer skills (Word for Windows, Excel, e-mail); • Good organizational, administrative and reporting skills; • Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously; • Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs; • Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas; • A team player with a strong interest to work in an international environment; • Ability to work in English is essential for this internship. |
