BACKGROUND
This is a local recruitment. Only Thai nationals, individuals with residence status or the appropriate employment visa for Thailand are eligible to apply. The remuneration and benefits package for this position is established with reference to the local labour market and in line with the IUCN conditions of service for Thailand.

Marriott project
IUCN Thailand has signed an agreement with Marriott Thailand. This agreement includes three main components:
• Marriott provides funding support for activities of IUCN’s Thailand Programme in supporting local communities to carry out mangrove restoration.
• IUCN and Marriott work together to identify opportunities for creating small businesses in local communities for the production of sustainable souvenirs and gifts for their guests.
• IUCN helps Marriott in locating sources of sustainable seafood for their hotels from nearby communities.

The Field Coordinator will act as a focal person for the activities of the Marriott project in the South (Phuket, Khao Lak, Koh Samui).
JOB DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND:

Marriott project
IUCN Thailand Programme has signed an agreement with Marriott Thailand. This agreement includes four main components:

1) IUCN Thailand Program and Marriott will carry out the assessment and research for the potential ecological restoration and habitat management, as well as encouraging community engagement in this regards.
2) IUCN will support Marriott in developing the strategic plan for responsible, and local community engagement in establishing a responsible fishery practice in the target communities nearby the properties.
3) IUCN supports Marriott in waste management and plastic reduction policy, consisting of technical supports for the property’s related policies.
4) IUCN will support the Marriott to prioritize communication and awareness raising strategies on environmental issue for Marriott’s associates and guests.

The Field Coordinator will act as a focal person for the activities of the Marriott-IUCN partnership project in the South.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Field Coordinator will assist the Head of Office, Thailand Programme and coordinate with the Partnership Coordinator, Marriott-IUCN Partnership project in implementing the project activities of the Marriott-IUCN Partnership project in the South, and visiting other Marriott’s properties in other regions based on agreed work plan.

The Field Coordinator will also assist with other activities related to IUCN’s coastal projects in Thailand.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Identify locations and determine strategies for biodiversity management and community-based conservation work with local communities in the target areas, to develop the related work plans and carry out restoration, maintenance and monitoring; coordinate events with Marriott properties; monitoring and documentation of the target areas.

2. Develop coral reef conservation strategy for Marriott properties in close collaboration with the regional offices of DMCR

3. Serve as the Reef Centre Manager at Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach

4. Manage day-today tasks at the coral reef centre, develop the conservation and restoration plan, education programme on site at the Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach


5. Develop innovative outreach materials to support the engagement of other properties in a sustainable environmental restoration project, improve IUCN visibility and provide support for donation programme, signs, flyers with Front office and HR teams

6. Provide technical supports on ecological restoration and habitat management, responsible seafood and waste management to the relevant Marriott’s properties in southern Thailand under the partnership project work plan.

7. Develop responsible seafood guideline based on the Marriott global policy on sustainable seafood for Marriott’s properties and determine fishery improvement programme of local fishery communities and suppliers

8. Represent IUCN with the Marriott properties and the DMCR to foster good relationship and support programme development

9. Provide training sessions to Marriott’s staff and property’s management team on IUCN’s conservation and sustainability practices to improve business practices

10. Assist in carrying out communications tasks of project such as web stories, news articles, printing media and online materials on social media

11. Coordinate with the Partnership Coordinator; Marriott-IUCN Partnership project, ensuring that the deliverables committed in the Marriott-IUCN partnership project master plan are achieved

12. Explore opportunities for other private sector engagement and carry out other relevant tasks assigned by, and mutually agreed with, the line manager


Please Note: The above TOR contains the main responsibilities and duties of this position. However in an ever evolving organisation such as IUCN staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular TOR. Where any task becomes a regular part of staff member’s responsibilities, the TOR should be changed in consultation between the manager, the staff member and the HR Unit. Any one of the three may initiate the consultation.
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least Bachelor degree with an academic background in coastal management, fishery, natural resources management or related disciplines

• At least 4 years field work experience in project implementation position

• Experience in working with communities; experience in climate change adaptation, vulnerability assessment, and livelihood development; knowledge of local and provincial planning and development process.

• Good understanding of natural resources utilization especially for coastal management with sound analytical skills

• Experience working with a diverse range of partners such as international organizations, NGOs, government departments and corporate sectors

• Experience with corporate sector on corporate social responsibility project and business engagement on sustainability type project.

• Good command of written and spoken English is essential

• Knowledge of local stakeholders

• Willing to be based at Phuket province.
