BACKGROUND
JOB DESCRIPTION
IUCN Core Corporate Governance

• Support the governance of IUCN’s policy cycle and policy corpus ensuring appropriate coordination with the Union Development Group;
• Support the work related to global policy matters addressed by Council and its relevant Committees (e.g. the Programme and Policy Committee of Council);
• Support GPU’s contribution to the IUCN World Conservation Congress, including the management of the motions process (support to the Motions Working Group and Resolutions Committee);
• Support the gathering of lessons learned from the revised motions process in order to implement changes for future IUCN Congresses;
• Support reporting to Council and Congress on policy implementation especially as regards Congress Resolutions follow-up;
• Maintaining and updating IUCN’s Resolutions and Recommendations database;


Policy systems & standards

• Contribute to keeping IUCN policy procedures updated and to communicating them to all component programmes;
• Contribute to raising awareness of policy standards and systems across the Union;
• Participate in the development of communication products for global policy influencing;


Capacity building for policy work

• Actively contribute to GPU’s work with other units to design and deliver capacity building activities of relevance to IUCN’s policy work;
• Work on the development of capacity building tools and products for policy influencing;
• Participate in capacity-building activities delivered by GPU as appropriate;


Other duties related to GPU’s work plan

• Represent IUCN at relevant global policy meetings and/or processes including at the United Nations when required;
• Participate in the development of policy influencing strategies, in particular for those global policy processes which fall under GPU’s coordination;
• Liaise, as appropriate, with the IUCN’s Permanent Observer Office at the United Nations, New York, to strengthen and deliver on IUCN’s engagement with the United Nations system;
• Support GPU’s fund-raising efforts for policy work;
• Provide support to the other activities of the GPU as required.

The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organization such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group.
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree in political science, international relations, economics, law or other related fields

• 3-5 years professional experience, preferably in an international organization or similar field of work

• Fluency in oral and written English

• Knowledge of other IUCN languages (French and Spanish) is an advantage

• Good analytical and research skills

• Diplomatic, dynamic and fast learner.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is between CHF 86'330 and CHF 107'913, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
