BACKGROUND
The Communication, Knowledge & Outreach Officer - is a project position of the EU funded Building Resilience to Climate Change Impacts, Coastal Southeast Asia (BCR)project. The position is based in IUCN's Asia Regional Office in Bangkok. This position is responsible for developing, managing and implementing all communications products and related activities for the BCR project in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Communication, Knowledge & Outreach Officer reports directly to the Manager, of the BCR project with the guidance of the Head of Communications, Asia.

The objective of Building Coastal Resilience in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam is to increase adaptive capacity of people and the ecosystems on which they depend to cope with the anticipated impacts of climate change and plan for DRR, through sound governance and planning. The project will strengthen the ability of local government and local people to plan for, and adapt to, future climate risks in eight coastal provinces between Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok. The project will identify best practices being developed by local people and provide opportunities for communities in different parts of the coastline to learn from each other. The project will use top-down and bottom-up approaches to ensure policy messages are disseminated at all levels. Networking, study visits, and an annual forum will be used to share knowledge with the other 12 provinces that make up the coastal corridor between Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok.

This position is a local position and is for a period of one year with the possibility of extension. This position is classified as P1 in our classification system and the minimum monthly basic salary for this position is THB 62,492 including comprehensive health & life insurance and other benefits.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Develop and implement a project communications strategy;
2. Ensure that IUCN branding, EU visibility and other guidelines are followed;
3. Work effectively with IUCN Country Offices and project partners in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, including the closely related EU funded CARE project;
4. Edit and synthesize documents, ensuring correct language use and final output is logical and easy to read;
5. Produce high quality communications products in a range of formats including reports, publications, brochures, policy briefs, web stories, press releases, e-news, short films, podcasts, etc.;
6. Oversee and manage production processes, ensuring quality standards and budgets are met;
7. Manage web and digital resources for project communications;
8. Build and maintain a mailing list of relevant target audiences for project communications;
9. Provide communications support for events;
10. Proactively engage media and monitor results;
11. Monitor and evaluate communications activities and produce regular reports and updates and;
12. Carry out any other duties you may be called upon to perform from time to time by your supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 5 years relevant professional experience;

• A degree in communications/journalism/PR or related field. Post graduate qualifications would be an asset;

• Experienced in production of a range of different types of documents with excellent editing skills and ability synthesize complex content into short, easy to read text;

• An understanding of current conservation issues especially climate change adaptation;

• Ability to work effectively with diverse multicultural and multidisciplinary teams;

• Excellent spoken and written English and at least one or more Thai, Khmer or Vietnamese required;

• Proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and experienced with print, multi-media and web-based design software and;

• The ability to produce high quality outputs under tight timelines.
