BACKGROUND
The Communications Assistant is part of the Species Conservation Action (SCA) Unit within the IUCN Global Species Programme. The SCA Unit facilitates species conservation action through the provision of resources, and advice based on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and other knowledge products such as Key Biodiversity Areas. The Unit engages closely with the Species Survival Commission in all aspects of the work.

The Communications Assistant will be responsible for implementing the SCA Communications Strategy to promote our work and contribute to securing funding for conservation action. This position will report to the
Communications and Business Engagement Manager.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Branding
•Support the process of rebranding SOS – Save Our Species to include all the work of the Species Conservation Action (SCA) Unit including the Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme;
•Support the process for branding and positioning for the species conservation re-granting schemes including SOS, the Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme and others; in the Species Conservation Action (SCA) Unit;
•Support the process of developing a new visual identity for the SCA work, including a new logo;
•Contribute to ensuring that the brand and visual identity are fully applied in all ways of communication.

Communications
•Support the implementation of a Species Conservation Action Communications Strategy;
•Implement communications and outreach activities for SCA initiatives including the production of high quality communications products in a range of formats (e.g. reports, publications, brochures, web stories, press releases, videos);
•Help maintain the SOS website, uploading stories, and ensuring that the content is current and relevant;
•Organise and classify the photo gallery;
•Feed and monitor social media platforms;
•Develop communication packs for grantees to ensure they promote the projects in a cohesive and streamlined way;
•Provide communications support for events;
•Monitor and evaluate communications activities and provide regular reporting according to work plans of projects.
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree in communications/marketing/journalism/PR or related field;

• At least two years of relevant experience working at a professional level; experience working on environmental issues is an asset;

• Experience with news media and social media;

• Knowledge and competence with the use of digital analytics to inform the development of marketing campaigns and asset;

• Solutions oriented approach: demonstrates an ‘outside the box’ attitude;

• Outstanding writing and editing skills; strong attention to detail;

• English – native level; French and Spanish – an advantage;

• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills;

• Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, think laterally and resolve complex issues in a dynamic and changing environment;

• Ability to cope with varied workload and flexible working hours, and able to work independently;

• Willing and able to travel internationally as required.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is between CHF 73'019 and CHF 91'274, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
