BACKGROUND
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision and guidance of Team Leader Revitalizing Environment in Tribal Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) through Pro-poor and Pro-gender Environmental Development and in close collaboration with concerned directorates of FATA, advisors/consultants for other components, the Environment and Natural Resource Management Specialist will be responsible for facilitating and supporting the integration of the present Environment Cell in FATA into the new institutional environment of the KP Province; documenting and disseminating the existing knowledge in the forthcoming KP/FATA merger; enhancing the technical capacities of key stakeholder groups to develop and implement pro-poor, pro-gender and pro-environment projects; and increasing/improving availability of information on and awareness of the landscape and natural heritage of Tribal Districts to enhance opportunities for nature-based ecotourism and biodiversity related tourism.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
1. To assist in transformation and strengthening of FATA Environment Cell as Tribal Districts
Environment Directorate in EPA, KP.
2. To build capacities of Tribal Districts Environment and other relevant existing Directorates
in Environment Policy, Environmental Profile and Mainstreaming of Environment into Development
Planning.
3. To document and disseminate the existing Environmental and Water Governance Knowledge
(reports, studies, etc.) to the relevant stakeholders.
4. To prepare two Watershed Management Plans, one each for the catchment area of River Gomal and
Panjkora/Swat falling in Tribal Districts.
5. To assist in the establishment of four number Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM)
demonstration projects, two each in the selected basins.
6. To prepare two Plans for Rehabilitation and Restoration of Degraded Natural Forests in Tribal
Districts.
7. To develop one Plan for Integrated Silvo-pastoral System in Tribal Districts.
8. To develop one Plan for Improving Productivity of Crop Lands in Tribal Districts.
9. To develop one Plan for Controlling Irrational Cutting of Coniferous, Oak and Other Trees for
Fuelwood Purposes.
10.To assist in increasing/improving availability of information on and awareness of the
landscape and natural heritage of Tribal Districts to enhance opportunities for nature-based
eco-tourism and biodiversity related tourism.
11.To assist in documentation of Natural Heritage of Tribal Districts.
12.Any other relevant tasks as required and assigned by your line managers/supervisor(s).
REQUIREMENTS
  • A Ph.D with 7 years minimum or Master’s degree holder in Environmental Sciences/Environmental Planning/Environmental Management and and/or Forestry/Agriculture/Natural Resource Management (NRM) related discipline with 10 years’ experience in environment sector and/or NRM related project in public and private sector.

• 10 years’ experience in environment sector and/or NRM related project in public and private sector.

• Sound understanding of environmental standards and NRM practices applied in KP and Pakistan and sound understanding of NRM related issues of Merged Areas, formally FATA, of KP.

• Sound background of conducting EIA, IEE and EIS and other relevant techniques for Environmental Assessment, Conservation, Climate Change Mitigation/Adaptation & DRR coupled with a strong working experience with Public and Private sector working for NRM and Environment activities.

• Strong skills in MS Office, Excel, Word processing and Power Point etc.

• Excellent ability to prepare technical reports & documents.

• Well versed in written and spoken English/Urdu and local language with strong analytical and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team and willing to travel in connection with project activities.
