BACKGROUND
The Marine Programme Assistant will support the department in its daily activities and to implement currents projects to a high standard, including EU projects already in progress, as the Life Blue Natura, Interreg FishMPABlue 2, MPA Adapt project, and some others related to the regional strategy of the MAVA foundation on the Mediterranean Basin on Fisheries and biodiversity partners to develop and achieve common goals.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Project Assistant is responsible for assisting the Programme Coordinator and the Project Manager in the day-to-day execution of the projects: draft Terms of Reference for Consultancies, budgets and progress reports, monitoring some tasks of project development and deadlines and preparing submissions of technical reports.

He/She will be in charge of the logistical organization of meetings and field visits, as necessary as well as to contribute technically to the progress of the activities.

The Project Assistant reports directly to the Marine Programme Manager, while interfacing with other programme managers, project coordinators, finance, HR, admin and communications staff of the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation.

The assistant is based in Malaga, Spain and will be required to travel to other locations in Spain or in the Mediterranean to a maximum of 30% of the time (if required)

The annual gross salary for this position is 26.709 €.

SPECIFIC TASKS

As global support to the Marine department

- Establish and maintain sound and productive working relationships with IUCN partners involved in the different projects
- Carry out financial, logistical and administration support.
- Assisting with day to day administration and financial tasks in coordination with IUCN Med finance and admin team.
- Support the development of tools and communication materials around the Marine programme, including the writing of small news for the website or contribution to any useful communication material (ie leaflet, brochures, article).
- Ensure strong information flows between all interested parties concerned by project where the Assistant will be assigned regarding the workflow
- Performing any other duties as requested by the line manager.

EU projects: Life Blue Natura and Interreg FishMPABlue2 and MPA Adapt

Help to implement, monitor and evaluate progress of activities related to the 3 European projects set above
- Help with the coordination of specific tasks and assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the project activities.
- Assist the Marine Department in preparing reports in addition to the other reports to the partners, as necessary
- Assist in the design and implementation of workshops and delivery of communication products

MedKey Habitats 2 (MAVA Fondation project)

Support the writing, monitoring and implementation of the project call MedKey Habitats 2, led by the RAC/SPA, especially on the socio-economic part with the help of local consultants in Morocco or Algeria:

- assistance in drafting the ToR of the studies and activities to be undertaken,
- Help with the evaluation of the deliverables of the local partners,
- support the elaboration of the progress reports and information on project logical framework indicators
- when necessary, co-organize workshops (Assist in design, prepare and document training materials) on the project areas, help conduct training sessions for the project to meet identified training needs and participate to field visits to check the progress of activities
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 3 years of experience in environmental management projects or project management

• Good knowledge and background on marine environment within the Mediterranean region

• Proven experience in administrative and technical assistance (including planning, implementation, budgeting, and monitoring) of conservation projects; previous experience in EU project is a plus

• Fluent or high languages skills in both in French and English, Arabic is a plus

• Editorial ability of proven technical, communication outreach and administrative documents

• Ability to work with people from diverse cultures and different backgrounds. Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deadlines and be flexible

• Ability to travel regionally

• Knowledge of marine conservation areas issues and their linkage with livelihoods and sustainable development issues

• Good knowledge of IUCN, its mission and working requirements, will be a plus
