BACKGROUND
This is a local recruitment. Only Myanmar nationals, individuals with residence status or the appropriate employment visa for Myanmar are eligible to apply. The remuneration and benefits package for this position is established with reference to the local labour market and in line with the IUCN conditions of service for Myanmar.

SDC funded Gulf of Mottama Project (GoMP) is working with stakeholders and coastal communities in Bago Region and Mon State of the Gulf of Mottama (GoM) by adopting the wise use of natural resources - especially fisheries - resulting in ecosystem resilience and improved livelihood security for all, including the most vulnerable women and men, in the face of climate change. In the Phase III of the project, the emphasis will be development of bottom-up approach based on the results of research from previous phase with the focus on biodiversity conservation. To support such mechanism, GoMP is facilitating the coastal communities to implement community-based resources management for wise-use and sustainability of coastal natural resources in 8 Ecosystem Management Units (EMUs) in eight townships. Therefore, GoMP is working on strengthening the social potential and capacity of communities for coastal natural resource management, support of participatory action-research to support evidence-based decision making and assess the project impacts and needed changes through participatory monitoring and evaluation for sustainable management of resources in the GoM.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Technical Officer will lead IUCN’s work on the SDC funded Gulf of Mottama Project on mapping of coastal and marine ecosystem management and mapping of landuse landcover change in the Salween River Basin Area of BRIDGE 5.

1. SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Support the implementation of the project’s field activities in close collaboration with the project’s executing partners
• Document and maintain records of all stakeholder engagement activities.
• Coordinate project activities with stakeholders within and outside the relevant government agency and with communities at the municipal and local level.
• Lead for the Gulf of Mottama Project (GOMP) in GIS/RS analysis and mapping.
• Build a GoM GIS database that integrates all project activities to support daily project operations and internal and external communications.
• Lead in Disaster Prone Area Mapping of Gulf of Mottama Project
• Support on the participatory coastal landuse mapping of Ecosystem Management Unit (EMU)
• Support on the mapping of landuse landcover change in the Salween River Basin Area of BRIDGE 5 Project.
• Support other IUCN Myanmar projects in GIS/RS analysis, and mapping and building a database
• Undertake and support research and analysis of ecosystem and/or socio-economic conditions to inform the design of project activities, and their implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Handle day to day field operations


2 Project management. Duties include:
• Prepare technical reports that are reflective, accurate, comprehensive, transparent and timely as per agreements.
• Engage in a strategic dialogue with GOMP consortium partners about the project as a whole and the outcomes they are responsible for in particular in order to assure cohesion in project implementation.

3. OTHER DUTIES
Carry out any other duties you may be called upon to perform from time to time by your supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Geospatial Science, Remote Sensing and GIS, Agricultural Science, Geography, Forestry, or Rural Development

• 5 years of relevant experience in coordinating field activities of ecosystem-related projects, with strong experience in either community engagement and socio-economic assessment, and/or environmental management of wetlands/ peatland ecosystems

• Experience in research and data collection methods relevant to natural resource management

• Knowledge of, or the capacity to acquire an understanding in institutional and governance structures of Myanmar

• Understanding of Peatland/ wetland ecosystems in Myanmar and their identification

• Fluency in written and verbal Burmese and English

• Proficient in using computers and data management

• Willingness and capacity to undertake strenuous and/or extended periods of field-based activities
