BACKGROUND
The incumbent will support the Programme Manager and Programme Officer(s), Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA), in tasks related to the implementation of several global-scale climate change adaptation projects. He or she will provide assistance in reviewing technical documents, communications, and donor deliverables; and in ensuring the timely coordination of activities and reports among IUCN and partner offices. In addition, the incumbent will support EMP’s engagement in partnerships on EbA, ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (ecoDRR) and mangrove conservation, particularly through the Friends of EbA, PEDRR, UN Community of Ocean Action on Mangroves, and the Global Mangrove Alliance.
JOB DESCRIPTION
SPECIFIC TASKS

The incumbent will undertake the following tasks:

a)Assist in coordinating the work being done in in on-ground implementation of ecosystem-based adaptation such as in countries including Nepal, Peru, Uganda, Bhutan, Colombia, and KenyaThis would entail compiling progress reports and synthesizing information into one joint report, and close coordination with colleagues in regional and country offices.

b)Assist in coordinating the work being done in strengthening evidence and informing policy for EbA. This would also entail compiling progress reports and synthesizing information into joint reporting, supporting the planning and execution of workshops and events, supporting communications, and drafting and reviewing technical papers.

c)Assist in the operationalisation of the Global EbA Fund including grant administration, management, reporting etc.

d)Assist in developing and generating knowledge through the formulation and application of Nature based Solutions and Ecosystem based Adaptation Standards and action learning exercises in select countries.

e)Support coordination under partnerships including PEDRR, the Friends of EbA and the Global Mangrove Alliance, e.g. drafting communications, reviewing joint technical papers, and tracking deliverables.

f)Support the preparatory work on technical/position papers on EbA.

g)Assist in the EbA webpage maintenance, including uploading relevant material.

h)Carry out any other relevant task as assigned by, and agreed with, the line manager.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 2-3 years relevant work experience in fields related to ecosystem management, environmental policy advocacy, climate change policy, international development, and/or environmental science.

• A relevant university degree (preferably a graduate degree) in a subject relevant to natural resources management, geography, international development, conservation science, environmental policy, etc.
