Programme Support Associate Invasive Species
|
The salary for this position is: £23,500 p.a.
Under the guidance of the Programme Officers, provide technical, scientific and administrative support, including:
• Supporting the co-ordination of task deliverables, e.g. communication with sub-contractors, tracking progress of tasks and deliverables, proof reading and editing technical and scientific documents.
• Providing support in the production of technical and scientific reports and guidance documents, including undertaking research, data collation and analysis, and writing sections of technical reports.
• Representing IUCN at meetings and workshops with the EC, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Support the organisation of workshops, including on the assessment of humane management measures for invasive species.
• Assist, as required, with additional technical and administrative support work undertaken by IUCN.
Supporting the application of EICAT
Under the guidance of the Programme Officers:
• Support the organisation and facilitation of EICAT training and assessment workshops.
• Undertake consistency checks of EICAT assessments.
• Assist the IUCN EICAT Unit in activities related to the implementation of EICAT.
Other activities
Under the guidance of the Programme Officers, other responsibilities will include:
• Supporting activities of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, in particular the Invasive Species Specialist Group.
• Support all other aspects of the Global Species & Key Biodiversity Areas Programme’s work on invasive species, in general.
• Supporting policy work, such as on the Convention on Biological Diversity and the UN 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.
• Supporting updates to IUCN’s IAS webpage.
• Supporting other invasive species activities undertaken by IUCN, as required.
• Representing IUCN at meetings and conferences.
In addition, the position will need to be available to undertake travel worldwide when safe to do so.

• Education • A degree in Conservation Biology, or closely related field. Work Experience • Relevant professional experience, ideally conservation related at a European or international level. • Proven experience of supporting the delivery of project deliverables according to deadlines, for example technical or scientific reports. Proven experience of working in projects engaging different stakeholders and sub-contractors. Skills • Excellent editing and writing skills in English. • Excellent data management skills. • Strong organizational skills. • Excellent communication skills. • High proficiency in use of computer software, particularly MS Word, and Excel. Knowledge • Good knowledge of conservation issues – ideally at a European or international level. • Knowledge of invasive alien species and their impacts to biodiversity. • Knowledge of the EU Invasive Alien Species Regulation 1143/2014 would be desirable. • Knowledge of IUCN EICAT would also be desirable. Competencies/Behaviours • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Languages • Fluency in written and spoken English essential. |
