BACKGROUND
IUCN’s Global Protected Areas Programme (GPAP) has a long heritage in the Union, with a headquarters-based core team, regional staff, and a closely coordinated programme of activities with the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA). Together with IUCN members, they implement a single unified work programme for the Secretariat, that consists of a portfolio of active projects, with a ‘pipeline’ of project concepts being developed at any given time. This position will support coordination of project preparation, commissioning, implementation, monitoring and reporting across the GPAP portfolio.

The IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas is a global campaign for successful nature conservation, and is a flagship product for GPAP. At its heart is the first global standard of best practice for area-based conservation. It is a programme of certification for protected and conserved areas – national parks, natural World Heritage sites, community conserved areas, nature reserves and so on – that are effectively managed and fairly governed. The IUCN Green List Sustainability Standard provides a global benchmark for how to meet the environmental challenges of the 21st century. Green List COMPASS is an essential digital platform for the IUCN Green List, powered using Salesforce technology. It is a vital tool to implement and monitor progress and impact of the IUCN Green List process in all jurisdictions and sites.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Director, Global Protected Areas Programme, the Programme Officer will be responsible for the coordination of projects and data management in support of the IUCN Global Protected Areas Programme, particularly for the implementation of the IUCN Green List Development Plan. The Programme Officer will help ensure that the information and data related to projects, from pipeline to implementation, are well coordinated and accessible to project managers through an appropriate tracking system.
Furthermore, s/he will contribute to a programme of funded activities supporting the IUCN Green List development plan, and ensure that these are included systematically into progress reports and monitoring. The Programme Officer will also play a key role in Green List COMPASS administration and coordination.project
In practice, the work involves liaison and participation with the GPAP leads on priority programme components, with IUCN thematic programmes, with IUCN regional offices undertaking relevant projects, with the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and relevant Specialist Groups and Task Forces.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project portfolio data coordination (40%)
Implement a system to help project managers coordinate and track project delivery and impact within the GPAP programme portfolio and against the IUCN Programme;
Support project managers to coordinate production of project technical and financial reports, as set out in project documents, or as required by donors, and for their upload into the project portal;
Support procurement and contracting processes – especially in the development of documents and ensuring compliance with IUCN procedures;
Help project managers to maintain up-to-date project descriptions, data forms and workflows in the IUCN project portal and the IUCN project open portal.

2. Data management for the IUCN Green List Standard (40%)
Support ongoing development of the Green List COMPASS data management system (based on Salesforce Cloud and Experience Cloud platforms), as an integral component of the IUCN Green List Development Plan;
Serve as coordinator for the data management module of the Green List Development Plan;
Perform daily system administration duties, including setting up new user accounts, reviewing ongoing processes, and troubleshooting issues;
Ensure comprehensive filing and documentation of all site and system processes on COMPASS. Provide technical support functions and a help-desk for the Green List COMPASS application, operations team and wider user community, maintaining training material and conducting training sessions;
Promote access to and use of the Green List COMPASS application for users at all levels in the Green List community;
Promote the appropriate use of technological digital solutions (including Salesforce products, Apps, map and camera data, drone data) to enhance conservation impact for IUCN Green List candidate and listed sites;
Oversee data integration with other databases (ex. WDPA with UNEP-WCMC), ensuring data interoperability, and with the IUCN Green List website.

3. Project development support (20%)
Support preparation of project proposals and grant opportunities, in both technical and financial as;
Develop familiarity with the IUCN Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) and help advise GPAP on ESMS provisions in project design and in implementation;
Help with proposal submission processes to ensure timely delivery of required information and documentation;
Support GPAP programmatic priorities and IUCN general tasks, as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree or equivalent in conservation sciences, environmental sciences or studies, with an emphasis on sustainable development.

• At least five years of experience in project management and delivery is required, including experience of working with database software development.

• Strong database management and data analytics capacities.

• Fluency in English.

• Ability to work with Salesforce Cloud platforms is required, including system administration, process builder, page layouts, validation rules and other functions; Experience Cloud; and Salesforce data functions including reports, dashboards and APIs.

• Experience with project management and monitoring, ideally across a project portfolio.

• Technical ability in project tracking tools, data management, monitoring and evaluation.

• Creative and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Additional language skills (French, Spanish) is an asset.

• Team player, demonstrated ability to work in diverse and multi-functional teams.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is between CHF 86'330 and CHF 107'913, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
