The Convention Secretariat has its headquarters in Gland, Switzerland, where the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) provides some administrative services for the Convention.
The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and sustainable use of wetland biodiversity and services. It was the first of the modern global multilateral environmental agreements and remains the only one devoted to a specific critical ecosystem. The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands has its headquarters in Gland, Switzerland where the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), provides some administrative services to the Convention’s Secretariat for the operations and implementation of the Convention.
The Secretariat provides technical and policy advice to the Contracting Parties to the Convention in the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2016-2024. The Insular Caribbean is one of the most vulnerable regions in the world with respect to exposure to the effects of climate change and to natural hazards. To support Contracting Parties to improve the conservation and wise use of Caribbean wetlands the project “Wise Use of Caribbean Wetlands for Climate Change Mitigation and Conservation of their Ecosystem Services” will be implemented to strengthen Caribbean countries’ resilience and adaptability to climate change. The project involves the assessment of ecosystem services and the vulnerability of Ramsar Sites to climate change and their subsequent monitoring and capacity building of all major stakeholders on the values of coastal wetlands.
Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor for the Americas in the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands Secretariat the climate change and project coordinator will lead the project implementation and activities in the participating countries and lead the climate change component of the project.
Scope of responsibilities
1. Coordinate the project implementation and delivery of project outputs on time
2. Supervision of small staff project personnel.
3. Lead and provide technical support on the climate change component of the project according to the Convention guidelines and the outcomes of the climate change and ecosystem services consultancies.
4. Organize in consultation with the supervisor the national and international workshops of the project and side events in global forums according to the events schedule of the project and prepare minutes reports.
5. Work with the governments in the participating countries in the implementation of the project.

6.Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders
7. Explore and promote synergies with other existing initiatives that are relevant to the project’s outcomes;
8. Observe project management procedures/techniques in order to facilitate project implementation and ensure delivery of high quality outcomes;
9. Lead the preparation of dissemination materials (flyers, booklets and reports) according to the outputs and outcome of the project.
10. Provide technical support to the design and development of knowledge products related to the component of climate change;
11. Produce project technical progress reports in English and Spanish according to the outputs and the time frames of reporting for the project to the donor.
12. Report regularly to the supervisor the progress of the project, and on issues arising throughout the project with recommendations for resolving issues.

• Master’s Degree (or higher)/Academic level in natural resources management, climate change, conservation biology, environmental sciences/studies; environmental science; sustainable development or resilience studies) • Preferably ten years of experience in project management, sustainable development/natural resource management in the Latin American region or other developing countries with practical experience in sustainable development and climate change. • Experience working with multisectorial and multistakeholder level (senior government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities • Ability to work with an interdisciplinary and multicultural team • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish • Problem solving, creativity, initiative and innovation • Ability for interpersonal relationships and team work • Facility to perform tasks in an organized manner and in adherence to internal policies and procedures • Applicants will need to demonstrate ability to work with persons from different cultural and professional backgrounds • Willingness to travel at national level and internationally, whenever required • Excelent staff / leadership management |
