BACKGROUND
TRAFFIC is the leading non-governmental organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge, UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes. TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

TRAFFIC, along with support from the Swedish Postcode Foundation, is implementing a project called Wild at Home: Using markets for wild ingredients to support conservation and rural livelihoods. The project aims to inspire & support action around often-unnoticed wild-harvested plant ingredients found in our everyday beauty, health, and food products, such as shea butter, baobab, Brazil nuts, and liquorice.

The FairWild Foundation (www.fairwild.org) is a Swiss-registered non-profit organisation that works globally to promote the sustainable harvest and fair trade of wild plants, fungi and lichen. The FairWild Foundation is responsible for the management of the FairWild Standard and certification scheme, currently implemented worldwide by leading businesses in the herbal products, food and cosmetics industry. The Secretariat is based in Cambridge, UK.

TRAFFIC International and the FairWild Foundation are separate, independent legal entities. However, since 2009, the FairWild Foundation has collaborated with TRAFFIC under a partnership agreement, which includes TRAFFIC hosting the FairWild secretariat and co-operating on projects.

This role would be eligible for flexible/hybrid working, but the applicant must be within the UK for contracting purposes. The salary for this position is £27,869 (prorata for 0.6 FTE).
