Mangroves for the Future (MFF) is a unique partner-led initiative to promote investment in coastal ecosystem conservation for sustainable development. Co-chaired by IUCN and UNDP, MFF provides a platform for collaboration among the many different agencies, sectors and countries which are addressing challenges to coastal ecosystem and livelihood issues. The goal is to promote an integrated ocean-wide approach to coastal management and to building the resilience of ecosystem-dependent coastal communities. MFF currently operates in 11 countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.

MFF is founded on the principle of generating and sharing knowledge, making it available to empower people, and thereby enabling them to participate more effectively in decision-making to enhance sustainable coastal management. MFF depends on the active participation of diverse stakeholders across a wide range of different sectors (e.g. government, private sector, donors, NGOs etc.) and thus effective knowledge management and communications has long been recognized as a critical ingredient in realizing the vision and sustainability of MFF.
