IUCN internships aim to offer students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate university studies with meaningful work experience by supplementing their learning through a practical and on-the-job training approach. In doing so, the intern’s knowledge is supplemented through a practical learning experience while IUCN derives some level of advantage from the young professional’s services as well as the possibility of gaining new perspectives from the intern.
IUCN Sri Lanka (IUCNSL) helps to find pragmatic solutions to pressing environment and development challenges in the country. We promote nature-based solutions. In that context, IUCNSL recognizes the importance and value of investing in youth by providing opportunities to expose them to environmental sustainability and resilience principles and practices early in their lives. We trust that these initial orientations will help them as individuals, community members, citizens and as part of the global community irrespective of the professions they choose, in the future.
The intern will support the assigned line manager in tasks related to programmes and projects. He or she will provide assistance in knowledge management, communication and coordination, within a highly professional, dynamic and international environment. In return, the line manager will act as a mentor and provide guidance to the intern on a regular basis.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Provide support in compiling information and research materials
• Assist and provide support in organizing events, field work, meetings and taking notes
• Assist in documentation, map development (as applicable) and report writing
• Provide support in managing databases, social media, web content and record keeping
• Create and maintain PowerPoint presentations, project related photo and video stories
• Carry out any other relevant tasks as assigned by, and agreed with, the line manager

• Prospective interns must be enrolled in a university or equivalent tertiary institution. Students enrolled in undergraduate degree programmes should have completed at least one (1) year of full-time study. The academic programme must be relevant and related to the duties provided in the Terms of Reference. Students in a “gap year” may be accepted as long as they are able to provide a clear intent to pursue further study at the end of the gap period. • Strong interest in the subjects of environment conservation and sustainable development • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc.) • Fluent in verbal/written English, as well as Sinhala or Tamil • Ability to demonstrate interest to learn and develop new skills in a multi-cultural setting |
