BACKGROUND
This is a local recruitment. Only Bangladeshi nationals are eligible to apply. The recruitment and benefits package for this position is established with reference to the local labour market and in line with the IUCN conditions of service for Bangladesh.

IUCN Bangladesh, with support from WorldFish Bangladesh, has been implementing a project entitled, ‘Ecosystem Based Sustainable Management of MPA in Nijhum Dwip Seascape - Phase I’ at Nijhum Dwip Island. For long term conservation and protection, a roadmap towards sustainable Managing of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) management in the island has been proposed. The objective of the initial and current phase is, to create governance structures at local and national level and assign with responsibilities for designating and managing Marine Protected Area in Nijhum Dwip; Improve ecosystem integrity of the Marine Protected Area in Nijhum Dwip; Promote economic activities for improving socio-economic condition and resilience of dependent local people; and Introduce participatory monitoring mechanism and research facilities for maintaining ecological integrity, resilience and wise use of resources of the MPA in Nijhum Dwip.
JOB DESCRIPTION
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative and the Programme Coordinator of IUCN Bangladesh, and under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Project Assistant will be responsible for the following matters related to the project:

In general:

• Assist National Coordinator and Lead MPA and Fisheries Expert and project team in all kind of technical aspects related to livelihood support and income generation;
• Manage calendar of events and support the National Coordinator and Lead MPA and Fisheries Expert in execution of day to day field activities;
• Plan and organize logistical support for events (e.g. workshops, seminars, training) assisting with travel/accommodation arrangement and preparation of budgets;
• Drafting monthly, quarterly and special reports;
• Provide supports to publish books, web stories, video and posters and other communication materials;
• Undertake field visit at least 50% of his/her duty hours; and
• Undertake any other tasks that may be assigned as when deemed necessary.

Specific tasks to assist the project team in achieving the outcomes:

• Assist project team in preparing Livelihood Improvement Plan (LIP);
• Assist project team in providing livelihood support to the community members;
• Assist project team in monitoring and learning of the LIP programme;
• Assist project team in conducting baseline socio-economic survey and entry in the database;
• Assist project team in LIP database updating on the Nijhum Dwip MPA;
• Assist project team in preparation of Nijhum Dwip MPA Management Plan;
• Assist project team in conducting baseline biodiversity and socio-economic survey and preparation of report; and
• Assist project team in preparing Quarterly Progress Report and Project Completion Report.
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree in related subjects. Preference will be given to candidate having experience of protected area/wetland conservation.

• At least 2 years of professional experience.

• Experience in in programme or project administration, technical cooperation, financial management and budgeting or other administrative areas are essential;

• Professional level of knowledge in English.
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is BDT 923'570. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
