BACKGROUND
The role of the Project Officer, EU Overseas is to achieve and support the Programme Coordinator, Regional Seas/EU Overseas in a varied range of activities particularly related to project management, BEST IUCN consortium facilitation, technical analyses, communication, mobilization and liaison with the institutional partners.

IUCN’s working languages are English, French, and Spanish. The working languages of the two projects are English and French.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The main focus of the Project Officer will be to ensure the implementation and monitoring of projects (particularly the BEST Facilitation project and the BEST Consortium project ) in close collaboration with the Programme Coordinator.

The Project Officer will be responsible for two main areas of work - Communication and project management component. In particular, the Project Officer will:

1. Ensure day-to-day implementation and monitoring including financial monitoring, contract management and reporting;
2. Ensuring good flow of info within the consortium;
3. Prepare and run meetings, workshops and other events;
4. Facilitate the preparation of briefing notes, communication support and technical reports, and oversee their finalization;
5. Support the implementation and monitor a communication strategy for the Overseas Programme and its projects, in close collaboration with relevant partners and members of IUCN;
6. Update and manage the content of the programme’s micro-site on the IUCN website (www.iucn.org/euoverseas). Develop other communication tools, as appropriate;
7. Manage and regularly support the update the content of the email/web-based Europe Overseas Forum on Europe overseas activities, regional initiatives, policies, events and information of relevance from the EU and international fora to advance action on biodiversity and climate change issues in Europe Overseas Forum. Moderate thematic discussions and requests related to Europe overseas biodiversity and climate change issues. Facilitate exchange and updates on the implementation progress of the BEST projects;
8. Ensure the secretariat of the EU Overseas Roundtable;
9. Review draft materials with the Programme Coordinator and manage appropriate external peer review of such materials;
10. Seek opportunities for increased synergy with Overseas members and partners; source information and monitoring status of national, EU and international policies, programme initiatives and events. Maintain the agenda of key events of relevance to the programmes' areas to feed into the programme’s activities, tools and help identify opportunities for interventions;
11. Undertake other duties, as required, with the agreement of Programme Coordinator, including marine projects.
REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in Conservation /or Sustainable development, especially in project management;

• University degree (preferably a post-graduate degree) in a subject relevant to environmental management, environmental law, marine conservation and/or sustainable use;

• Enthusiasm and commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development issues, specifically related to Overseas and marine challenges;

• Experience in communication and organizing international events;

• Good knowledge of European Policies and marine and EU Overseas issues;

• Fluent in written and spoken English. Good knowledge of French is a particular advantage;

• Experience and ability in networking within multi-cultural environments, with a wide range of experts and stakeholders;

• Interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to work as a team member.
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is EUR 41'390. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
