IUCN’s work focuses on valuing and conserving nature, ensuring effective and equitable governance of its use, and deploying Nature-based Solutions to tackle global challenges linked with climate, land use and development. IUCN brings governments, NGOs, the UN and companies together to agree and develop policy, laws and best practices, and also supports scientific research and manages field and policy projects all over the world.
IUCN’s European Regional Office represents 357 members, including 32 governments. We provide regional and global services to the Union, providing vital linkages to EU institutions and other stakeholders in Brussels. Our primary role is to connect and engage in policy dialogues with European institutions, governments, civil society, NGOs, science and the business communities, providing knowledge and advising policymakers to improve conservation policy and action.
The Policy Team at IUCN’s European Regional Office leads IUCN’s engagement in EU policy. Over recent years, the European Office has been increasingly engaged on sustainable agriculture, contributing key knowledge on sustainable agriculture as well as fostering the debate towards the transition to sustainable agriculture.
Carrying out research on a number of specific issues related to agriculture and land use, liaising with relevant stakeholders to provide inputs for deliverables as required;
Following key policy developments related to agriculture and land use, putting together policy briefings and notes as required;
Organizing and assisting with the preparation of workshops, dialogues, and other events;
Identifying communications opportunities and drafting content for communication material;
Supporting the Policy Team’s work on IUCN’s European Regional Programme, as well as contributing to internal Union-wide discussions relating to agriculture and land use;
Supporting the Policy Team’s work related to agricultural and land use policy, as well as other policy areas as needs arise.
Related relevant activities, including support for fundraising and others as required by the supervisor.

• Essential: EU work permit Excellent knowledge of English Strong research, analytical and writing skills Ability to work within a team as well as independently, is comfortable also working remotely University degree in relevant subject matter (agriculture, land use, environment, policy) 2-3 years of work experience in relevant subject matter (agriculture, land use, environmental policy or related) • Desirable: Prior work experience dealing with EU policy and EU institutions Good knowledge of the Common Agricultural Policy and the EU Green Deal |
