Community Mobilizer/Field Coordinator - Adapting to Salinity in the Southern Indus Basin Project

IUCN Pakistan has been awarded the project, “Adapting to Salinity in the Southern Indus Basin Project” funded by Charles Sturt University Australia and Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research. The project will be implemented by IUCN Pakistan through its Karachi office during the period from Feb 2021 to April 2023. The project aims to develop and investigate adaptation options and strategies with people managing and living in salinity-affected agricultural landscapes in the southern Indus Basin.
Specific duties
1. Support the Implementation of project activities along with the targeted areas of the Sindh coast.
2. Provide facilitation in local coordination with relevant stakeholders.
3. Mobilize and identify potential local agrarian and fisher communities at the project site, termed as Bright Spot in the project, for participation in project activities.
4. Maintaining regular interaction with the project communities through meetings and gatherings.
5. Secure community response for learning and demonstrating potential options enable Bright Spot communities to adapt to salinity.
6. Organize and facilitate community workshops/ meetings/ surveys/ research studies with local target communities for co-inquiry/ co-research and consultation onidentifying the soil and water salinity associated problems and the adaptation options.
7. Liaise with local fisherfolks and ensure their participation in awareness and capacity building workshops regarding adaptive capacity of the target community to live with salinity under the project.
8. Facilitate selected beneficiaries for the demonstration of adaptation options on the ground.
9. Assist and facilitate in collection of field data for further research, monitoring and reporting on the demonstration of adaptation options.
10. Report monthly progress of implementation of activities in the field.
11. Perform any other projectrelated tasks as assigned by the Project Manager.

• Bachelors in Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences or any relevant field • At least two years of experience in community engagement and the implementation of participatory approach-based project field activities, preferably, agro-based livelihood development activities with coastal communities of Sindh province. • Excellent command of the Sindhi and Urdu language (verbal/written) coupled with good communication and presentation skills; • Average proficiency English language (verbal/written) Experience in office applications (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and web-based management tools and systems |
