Marine Programme Intern 2023

This internship position will provide the candidate with opportunities to apply and advance their knowledge and research skills in the following topical areas:
− Research, visualization and communication;
− Understanding specific policy frameworks and indicators for demonstrating conservation outcomes and impacts of marine and coastal conservation actions;
The intern, under the supervision of the Marine Biodiversity and Blue Economy Programme and IUCN-Med office team, will assist to accomplish the following tasks:
− Support the implementation of different meetings, events and workshops in marine conservation topics
− Provide support for the research on recent initiatives, studies and background knowledge regarding Blue Economy/Carbon, Nature-based Solutions, Marine Conversation actions focusing on MPAs, OECMs, etc.
− Conduct additional tasks/emerging issues assigned by the marine team and/or other departments to ensure the effective implementation of the programme.
− Prepare communication materials on IUCN-Med marine conservation initiatives for different social media
− Support on the application of the IUCN publication guidelines to each relevant document that will be publicised by the marine team
CONDITIONS
• This call is restricted to students or early graduates who are still in the capacity of performing an internship under the framework of their institution.
• The duration of the internship is 6 months (flexible) at the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation in Málaga, Spain. The possibility of partial remote work may be discussed.
• The intern is expected to work full time (average 39 hours per week) unless there are specific regulations within the candidate’s university.
• IUCN will help cover the cost of living in Málaga for the duration of the internship. The intern shall receive a gross subsistence/allowance of 700.00 € per month (seven hundred euros).
• The candidate will be required to maintain frequent communication with their supervisor and also attend team calls on a regular basis.
• The candidate should apply for her/his own VISA in case of living outside EU countries.
• • Current or recent MSc student with a degree in a relevant field, e.g. marine ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, environmental management and communications or similar disciplines. • • It is mandatory that the candidate be enrolled in an academic programme as the agreement will be between IUCN-Med and the candidate’s university. • • Good organizational and communication skills • • Ability to stay organized and work independently with minimum supervision; • • Curious and autonomous profile, with a capacity of analysis/synthesis of texts and technical reports. • • Excellent written, oral and editing skills in English. Good knowledge of French and/or Spanish is considered an advantage • • Proficiency and experience in additional skills such as GIS and/or social media content creation are considered an asset. |
