BACKGROUND
IUCN, represented by its Bangladesh Country Office, is implementing a project with support from the UNHCR to implement human-elephant conflict mitigation activities in and around the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals camp in Cox’s Bazar. IUCN requires a Senior Programme Assistant for smooth operation of the project in Cox’s Bazar, over the project period.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the overall guidance from the Country Representative and the Programme Coordinator of IUCN Bangladesh, and under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer of ‘Humanitarian-conservation actions for biodiversity protection around Rohingya refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar district project’, the Senior Programme Assistant be part of a diversified team and will be responsible for implementing the project activities in Cox’s Bazar in the light of the Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) between UNHCR and IUCN.

• Ensure proper planning and forecasting of seedling requirements for a particular plantation year in consultation with the Project manager.
• Execute technical management of Nursery, organize variety-wise production of quality seedlings as per production plan and ensure optimum land utilization.
• Ensure diversification and quality propagules collection from verified seed sources.
• Develop specifications and lead procurement of nursery materials like seeds/propagules, fertilizer, soil, and other operational tools.
• Maintained nursery stock register for the plants, bamboo and grass, along with preserving nursery warehouse stock register.
• Monitoring regular Nursery work especially cares and maintenance operation and labour management. Moreover, take measures to control the Nursery's production cost and ensure optimum overhead cost utilization.
• Provide technical guidance, monitor and coordinate nursery work like seed/propagules storage, seed treatment, seedling raising, nursery bed preparation and orientation, seedling sorting, and maintaining bio-safety
• Examine plants for diseases, insects, wildlife damage, and weeds to protect the health of the plants.
• Ensure maintenance and management of the Eco-shed and warehouse adjacent to the plant nursery.
• Prepare bi-weekly and monthly reports timely as and when necessary.
• Maintain nursery journal for record keeping of all nursery-related operations for future reference.
• Assist project team in plantation, ERT mobilization, youth activities, SulMer activities, and awareness raising programme.
• Maintain proper coordination with CiCs, Site management and agencies working on Rohingya responses and lead donor visits at the nursery site.
• Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Project Manager of IUCN Bangladesh from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Masters in Forestry, Botany, Agriculture, Environmental science or other related fields.

• At least 2 years' professional experience relevant to the assignment as defined in the terms of reference.

• Good presentation, writing and spoken communication skills in English and Bangla are essential.
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is BDT 1'292'998. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
